At a lot of the bank machines I have used in the US they usually give you your cash first, which I think is a terrible idea; they should give you the card first like they do up here, since you are more likely to grab the cash you came there for and walk away if you get it first.
KT

The few machines i've used always read the card immediately give it back then ask for your PIN then go on about your transactions. I've only once done two cash withdrawals at the same time and it asked me for my PIN for the second one, but didn't need my card.

But i've also only used atm at bank branches that are partnered with my bank. i've never used a 3rd party/independent atm in a store or parking lot. Maybe these are the ones that hold onto the card during the transaction.

give it to the bank and let them sort it out... and don't give them my info in case something is wrong.

In other news today I took 2 baby squirrels that fell out of a tree to the local animal hospital.

I almost forgot about this since I was thinking of an ATM card at an ATM, but I found one a couple of years ago and did the same thing. It was on the street or at a party or some where totally public though.

If you were at the bank where the ATM was (and of course, assuming that bank is the ATM cards "home" bank), it would be much easier and probably less of a hassle to leave the ATM card at the bank. They would probably been able to contact the person who lost it as opposed to having to reissue a new card and have it sent out.

Actually, you can get debit cards printed instantly on location if the bank offers it. I actually work at a bank and this is a service that we recently started to offer.

I would do exactly what someone else has done to me in this situation.

I left my card at an ATM (ejected 1/4", didn't see it, forgot about it, left it sticking 1/4" out of the slot). Some guy came buy twenty minutes later, found my card. He immediately flipped it over, called the 800 number on the back, and told the bank. They cancelled my card immediately, called my cell, and issued a new card. I picked up the new card that day, not a single cent lost.

I had the same sort of thing happen. The person in the car ahead of me left their card in the ATM, I saw it then chased after them honking to get their attention.

A. The possible consequences are not worth it
B. if I saw the lady leave the card and she was still nearby - yes.
C. if nobody or too many people were nearby - in the bank it goes.
D. Nah... unless she was attractive to me and wanted to "thank me" :)

I'm sure you could just call the bank and let them know the circumstances, they'd probably just cancel the card and alert the cardholder.

how did you get that smiley?

Wow Olds calling someone an old fart! This guy must be a Titanic survivor! :D

haha true

Right - could always be a setup like they do in small towns to weed out the dishonest folk. In that case it would be a dummy account and the thief would get the surprise of his life when a panel below the machine opened up. Next a contraption known as the "Denver jock strap" emerges and grapples his crotch like those arcade claw machines. Except this is equipped with electro hydraulics with over a ton of testicle crushing power. Then come the Pinkertons to take him into custody. :D

you have quite the vivid imagination

I've actually had this happen to me while I was at Uni... I caught up with the lady down the street and gave it her back... although it was the end of the transaction and I couldn't of got money out with it even If I'd tried.

Unless I got a good look at the lady who left the card, I wouldn't try to give it back to her. Instead I would go to the bank and give them the card. That is probably the safest bet.
