A few Sundays ago I found a card sticking out of a drive-thru ATM. I pulled it out and was going to drop it in the bank mail slot, but out of curiosity looked at the name. It belonged to the father of one of the girls on the softball team I coach, so I called him and returned it.

Can you tell I live in a small town?

There is a camera, in the ATM, pointing at your face.

From what I understand, that camera only snaps a pic the moment you enter your PIN...unless you are referring to the video camera's in and around the ATM room.

I haven't seen an ATM that wasn't swipe or insert-pull, or one that didn't' prompt for PIN after each transactions in a *long* time.

Then again, the only ATMs I use are my CU's, so maybe that's the reason..

Very similar story happened to me a few months ago. Went to the main downtown Chase bank and tried to use the ATM, there was an ATM card still inside it. I pulled it out, cancel everything and went inside, gave the ATM card to the teller. When I walked out, a white guy ran in and asked if anyone saw his ATM card. Teller asked him name and gave him back his card. Everyone lives happy ever after. The end.

Why does it matter that he's white? Racist :colbert:

I only had the "suck card in" ATM at Wamu for years. Just a few months ago Chase put in brand new ATMs with the gas station style swipe readers. There also aren't any deposit envelopes anymore which is another big change. You can put a stack of checks or a stack of cash in and it reads it all. It doesn't take 100's though and I've had a couple checks it just spit back out because it couldn't read it.

Oh, and Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo has a High Street.

The Chase ATM here takes 100's, but it's hard sometimes to get the ATM machine to accept any bills. If I put in a couple bills, it takes maybe a few, and then spits out the rest. Not sure why. So, I have to deposit it inside the bank.

Cool. I've been called worse things in my life. I don't even know if that's suppose to be an insult. More like a fact, I guess.

Ah, that could be the same as mine because I've never tried it with more than a few 20's.

Overall though, I like the new machine. It seems a lot faster than the old ones and it doesn't have that annoying advertisement screens in between actions.

The ATMs for the couple of banks here where I have/had accounts with (both drive through and walk-ups) are either:

1. Swipe only
2. Slide in card quickly and pull out (like electronic keys in hotel rooms, only horizontal)
3. Insert card into slot, enter PIN, it spits card back out when PIN is correct, and won't continue until we take the card completely out

So there's really no chance of leaving the card in the machines

I've found bank cards and credit cards in the past. I destroy them so scammers can't use them. Replacing a credit card or bank card is not hard. When my Visa broke, I called them up and they sent me a new card 2 days later.

Nope. The camera is constantly taking pictures while you are using the machine, and even when nobody is using the machine. It's only like 2 frames per second or some crap like that, but it's enough to know what you look like.

i'd have run her down and returned it.

there are very few things that are as annoying as having to replace a debit/credit card that got lost or stolen.

fuck you to anyone who would have just left the card. bunch of lazyass, horrible human beings.

The ATM's that keep the card can at least hold on to the card if someone tries to guess your PIN.

Don't forget the Duke Lacrosse rape case, where Reade Seligmann was videotaped at an ATM withdrawing money at the time Crystal claimed he was in the bathroom raping her...

One type of ATM I've used up here in Virginia is the kind where it takes your card in but doesn't release your cash until you pull your ATM card back out once it spits it out.

Big Brother is always watching.

This, I wouldn't want a trip to room 101, so I'd probably try to return it to the rightful owner, if it was an attractive female, I would be flirtatious and maybe try to get some digits, but not an outright exchange for sexual favors.

I hate the new swipe style atms, you can easily leave without logging out of your account/ending your session. Usually I would catch it but sometimes the machine has a 5-10 sec delay before it shows the logout/end transaction screen.
