They should be punished, but ten years in jail is ridiculous. A good ass whipping would be more appropriate.

Anybody else thinking that if perhaps they were girls nothing would have happened other than a "That was bad, don't do it again"

"Life-altering cases"? This is why the American legal system fails.

life altering because now they are marked as sex offenders for the rest of their lives.. thats f'd up. the teacher that had them sent to the principals office is going to hell.. not to mention the people who decided they should be put in jail for 5 days

Why is the teacher's aide that sent 'em to the principal condemned for eternity? Seems to me that the boys' behavior was inappropriate ... she was giving the principal a chance to correct it.

I think the trip to Juvie and the criminal charges are overboard, but I also think that the boys needed an 'intervention' to get them to change their pattern of behavior.

see in the olden days, you do something like this, you go to the heads office.... you get the cane to your hand/ass/back of legs or some chalk board rubbers chucked at you and you never did it again.

it was cheap and effective.

now its expensive (judges, beaurocracy, legal expenses etc) and completely pointless. coulda saved the state/school some money there. i redkon stuff like this happens just so some people actually have a job to do.

of course...take a cane to the boys arse and then the mother sues the shcool into the toilet.... seems both ends of the scale are just as pathetic and pointless as each other.

Second this, their life will probably ruin if they are on that list. Too harsh.

They were running down the halls smacking girls asses. Oh noes!

What the fsck is the big deal?

I could see the problem if they were running around sticking their hands up girls' shirts, but this is ridiculous.

This is not a sex crime. These kids need detention for running down the halls and acting inappropriately, they do not need to be charged as sex offenders.

My good lord.

lets do an experiment. you do this in your place of work and let us know the results.
while i think the punishment is too much, the behavior is not acceptable for school.

This country will soon turn into a radical Muslim nation, making all the girls wrap them selfs in sheets, to completely hide the filthy woman body which causes men to sin.

Pathetic.

Serves them right. We need a strong deterrent for this kind of immoral behavior. The children, and their parents, deserve what they get.

my sarcasm meter is malfunctioning. is that a joke?

prosecutors with nothing better to do than to utterly destroy the future of a few adolescent boys who weren't thinking straight. show me a prosecutor who's been a goody two shoes his whole life. yeah. i thought so.

people like these ought to be fired from their jobs.

There's the key! First its butt smacking. Next thing we know, they're going to be having underage intercourse.

Hahah. If only they could follow in your immaculate footsteps, oh heavenly Hacp.

This kind of stuff always makes me upset. Why the hell is it common knowledge that ridiculous cases like these actually come to pass in America when the common knowledge should be that judges simply laugh and say, "Next!"

To be honest, it doesn't get the man anywhere. Girls would usually just turn around and kick us in the groin or smack our faces.

I think it would be better to let girls defend themselves than sending two 13 year olds to jail and ruining their lives.

That's stupid. The work environment is an adult environment. These are 13 year old kids who still have a lot of growing up to do. Why these kids weren't just suspended for a day or two and instead are treated like serial rapists is beyond me.

These kids are NOT going to get 10 years in juvie hall. The threat of it is going to be enough to scare some sense into them though. They are likely going to get a slap on the wrist and walk away with some kind of supervisory probation for a few months. I don't care how young/old you are it is NEVER OK to run down a school hallway smacking girls on their behinds. And 13 should most certainly be old enough to know better. If the parents have not taught them this is obviously inappropriate behavior, then somebody has to. Would have been far easier for their parents to teach them but in lieu of that, the court system will work I suppose. Good to nip this in the bud and teach them NOW before who knows what they do next. This doesn't have to ruin their lives and put them on the sex offenders list forever. It's all going to depend on how they play their cards, how repentant they are, and how well they present themselves in front of the judge. If they are truly sorry and they can show that in court, they will be fine. Don't act as if they are already convicted.

I agree. Their behavior was completely inappropriate even for 13 year olds. That is definitely old enough to know better. Good that they are teaching them now rather than later when they are big enough to actually commit rape and do some real serious damage.

I agree. Intervention now. But if the parents aren't going to do it, who is? The school can't because these days the schools hands are tied by threats of law suits from coddling, over-zealous, self-righteous, my kid can do no wrong parents. The only other entity that has the authority to step in and intervene to put an end to this kind of behavior would be the justice system.

You try it. You'll see what the big deal is. This attitude is simply arrogant and chauvinist. Why don't you move to Afghanistan or something, you'd fit in well in that society. You start with "Oh it's ok to smack women on the ass" and before you know it you are stoning them to death for adultery. You never have the right to touch anyone without their consent be they male or female. Thirteen is old enough to understand that simple concept.

They haven't even been to court yet. Everybody is getting all bent out of shape like they've already been convicted. That ten year sentence is just the maximum allowable but I promise you they are NOT going to get that. They are not going to get anywhere close to that. What they are going to get is hopefully scared straight.

A cane!? You don't even have to go nearly that far. All you have to do is grab a kid by the arm to escort him/her to the principals office and next thing you know you are hearing from an attorney.

How can you say that? That doesn't even make sense. It is precisely the opposite. In any other radical Muslim nation if this happened, the women who had their rumps smacked could be stoned to death for adultery. It is because in America we protect the rights of all people regardless of their sex that these kids are in trouble for their actions. You have it exactly backwards my friend.

holy crap ahurtt, could you possibly make more damn posts?!

Also, you're an idiot. Go back to P&N and stop trolling OT. Yes, the ass-slappery may have been inappropriate, but the justice system's "response" is as well.

Sorry for reading the entire thread and replying to those posts which evoked an emotion in me. Also, nice unprovoked personal insult. The justice system has not actually done anything as far as sentencing yet so what is so inappropriate about their response? I can promise this is not going to ruin these kids lives. Our justice system is not as unfair and harsh as people here are making it out to be. Judges are people too and they were kids once as well.
