He co-wrote a book stating that slavery helped African Americans:

I think that blacks in this country are better off than if their ancestors weren't inhumanely enslaved. Slavery makes me sick and I have no desire to justify it in any way. However, in a practical sense those who descended from slaves are better off than those who are still living in Africa. I don't think there is any doubt about that. So, you shouldn't be happy your ancestors were brutalized and treated like animals but you are better off here rather than living in Africa.

Kenya has a PPP GDP/capita of $1,764 and an HIV prevalence of 6.3% for adults. Sounds like a real utopia to me
