It could be good if he uses some of the existing material that's out there and allows someone else to direct.

Back when I was a huge SW nerd (weren't most of us at some point?) I read a trilogy by Timothy Zahn that I thought would be awesome sequels. Then again that was a long time ago and I'm not sure how well they stand up today.

I doubt Lucas is actually working on any new SW movies. He hasn't worked on one since The Return of the Jedi ... as evidenced by the (low quality of) the last three episodes.

No of course not. Lucas thinks he's so awesome and good at what he does.

There's one scene in some of the behind the scenes footage that really sticks out to cotnradict this. I don't know which movie it is for - maybe Revenge of the Sith - but it's one of the prequels. It's Lucas, Rick, and a other people who I assume are producers and editors and they're all watching one of the final cuts of the movie. He doesn't come right out and say it straightforward but Lucas does realize that the movie is crap but his pride is too great to fully realize and do something about it. Though at that point, it's too late anyway.

The only thing I can remember is from a clip of them screening The Phantom Menace, and it wasn't Lucas, it was the other guy who had this look, like what have we done, but he just doesn't really say anything, and then kinda just mumbles some agreement with the rest.

Hmm, I guess Lucas does speak up, but then he kinda goes back and says a bunch of stuff that makes no sense.

that's pretty awesome. I've only ever seen the first 3 or 4 episodes of that review. really need to finish it up some time, it's quite amazing.

Don't worry guys. In another 10 years, Hollywood will do a remake of the entire series starring Shia Labeouf as Han, Justin Beiber as Luke, and Natalie Portman as Leia. They'll recycle James Earl Jones voice work for Vader.

I look forward to more news on this. Hopefully Lucas doesn't seize full control over everything.

If he's making the Thrawn trilogy, and gives Timothy Zahn the final word on the screenplay, and has Guillermo Del Toro direct, then I heartily approve.

Lucas has already gone on Record saying that the Zahn trilogy WAS the official 7,8,9 .. and.. iirc ... he would never produce movies about them as it wouldn't do it any justice. Zahns novels are the only ones officially endorsed by George Lucas.

fuck, you dorks never learn.

book /= film.

this is why you still think LoTR films were a travesty, and that somehow the books were genius...they were not.

wth would you take decent sci-fi books (zahn) and make them into movies that, to do properly BY YOUR STANDARDS, would require NINE FILMS??

you fucks simply don't get it. i know. You've never tried to write a screenplay. I know...and you don't get it....but you continue to argue and complain about shit that you don't understand.

le sigh...

anyway, this is why I sit back, sip my cognac, and laugh as the godfather continues to destroy the baby that he created.

I love it.

It doesn't take 3 movies to do a book properly into film.

The Hobbit is being done in 2.
Harry Potter & Deathly Hollows is being done in 2.

There is just so much source material that doing in in one 90-120min movie is just cutting out WAY too much.

Most screenplays aren't 1200 pages.

I like all six movies.

Sure the acting was painful in the new ones but who gives a shot. They're blockbuster style scifi. Movies.
