Silly George Lucas

If it's a sequel to episode 6, then there is opportunity for the story to go that direction as many star wars novels don't focus on the skywalkers.

I'm not saying he's stupid, just that it's funny he's going to keep milking the franchise and further taint his legacy.

Depends on your perspective. Some people would be more proud of or have more respect for someone who creates a huge, profitable enterprise. Others might respect more someone who creates a beautiful piece of art for generations to enjoy. I think its obvious where Lucas' priorities lie, and that's not knocking him.

Its like if Henry Ford had said you know what, the Model T was such a great car, we don't want to tarnish our image with the Pinto or Aerostar or whatever crap might come later. We'll take our profits and go home.

That's an excellent summary of the situation. With the prequels and his continuing re-release of the videos, along with his handling of the SW video game franchises (most notably, Galaxies), he has shown he cares only to milk the name and make every last dime from it.

Screw the old bastard for ruining the Star Wars name and my favorite movies.

Even if they suck they'll be worth 4 billion combined in box office, DVD and merchandising. Yeah, how silly of him.

basically. I actually envy Lucas' maniacal desire to drive his baby off a cliff, to wantonly destroy the love and dedication of legions af fans and super nerds everywhere.

I grew up with these movies, and loathe what has happened.

I also accept the fact that where I Lucas, I'd be doing the exact. same. thing.

Oh, and I'd be laughing all the way, rolling in piles and piles of money.

I think Lucas is awesome.

Lucas is the Bill Roper of sci fi. He thinks he has good ideas, but tends to ruin every project.

I don't know who Bill Roper is, but you're right. Thing is, Lucas does have good ideas, but he does ruin everything. He's supremely anti-social (it's been mentioned by tons of people in the biz that he simply doesn't like working with anyone).

It shows in his direction--actors just don't like him. He's a terrible writer. The best decisions he's ever made, were handing off control of Empire and Jedi to someone else, while maintaining creative control. That is the perfect role for him. I mean, look at Star Wars, the movie is actually quite terrible. Empire--and not simply for a sci fi movie--is actually quite amazing. Jedi, despite the teddy bears that people hate, is also quite good in comparison.

He is an amazing idea machine, perhaps the best in the biz. Someone just needs to rest the controls away from him.

Isn't Lucas like older than Olds, Waggy, and DrPizza combined?

Edit: I guess he's only 66. Three films he could have wrapped up by the time he's 81.
