It could be good if he uses some of the existing material that's out there and allows someone else to direct.

Back when I was a huge SW nerd (weren't most of us at some point?) I read a trilogy by Timothy Zahn that I thought would be awesome sequels. Then again that was a long time ago and I'm not sure how well they stand up today.

I doubt Lucas is actually working on any new SW movies. He hasn't worked on one since The Return of the Jedi ... as evidenced by the (low quality of) the last three episodes.

There's one scene in some of the behind the scenes footage that really sticks out to cotnradict this. I don't know which movie it is for - maybe Revenge of the Sith - but it's one of the prequels. It's Lucas, Rick, and a other people who I assume are producers and editors and they're all watching one of the final cuts of the movie. He doesn't come right out and say it straightforward but Lucas does realize that the movie is crap but his pride is too great to fully realize and do something about it. Though at that point, it's too late anyway.

Lucasfilm Ltd. announced today that the live-action Star Wars Saga will be converted to 3D!

3D is like color. If it's shot with it to begin with, it's fine. If it's converted later, it's garbage.

Lucas has already gone on Record saying that the Zahn trilogy WAS the official 7,8,9 .. and.. iirc ... he would never produce movies about them as it wouldn't do it any justice. Zahns novels are the only ones officially endorsed by George Lucas.

It doesn't take 3 movies to do a book properly into film.

The Hobbit is being done in 2.
Harry Potter & Deathly Hollows is being done in 2.

There is just so much source material that doing in in one 90-120min movie is just cutting out WAY too much.

Most screenplays aren't 1200 pages.
