Should we be allowed to post pictures on the forums?

I was just thinking. For as long as I can remember, we haven't been able to post pictures directly on the forums. Most other forums that I go to allow you to do so.

At a place like VW Vortex, you just NEED pictures sometimes to get your point across. And simply having a link to the picture often takes away from the meaning or direct impact of a post.

I remember Jason saying before that we wouldn't have pictures b/c it would make load times unbearable for some people who were on 56k. Well, since the pics wouldn't be on the AT server side, it shouldn't be a burden on AT, but on the slow ass forums members (upgrade ya cheepskates!!!:p)

I know over at the Vortex, if a thread is heavy with large pics, people normally post (56k beware or 56k be patient) to give them a fair warning. I think by now, it's safe to say that the majority of the techies here are on broadband and would welcome the ability to view pictures directly on the forum.

The only thing stopping us from doing something like this though it seems would be the babe threads...I dunno...

What do you guys think?

Pics are good. Why cater to those stuck in the past? Should we keep the color scheme of the forum to black and white because not everyone has upgraded to color monitors?

I'm not whining. I'm just asking a simple question:p

Yeah, with the ichthyosis. Horrible, horrible stuff. But actually, in retrospect, maybe we should allow pictures to be posted. Like someone said, maybe more people will end up getting themselves banned.

I have to say that having to link the images is good. Sometimes I'll check out a borderline and gauge the reaction of others before opening up a link. If the policy wasn't in place, god only knows what the numbnuts on this board would post.

The server space for storing all those images has to be insane. Not a great idea from my point of view.

People can't even adhere to the no babe thread rule. I don't think we should be allowed to post pictures.

I don't mean storing them on AT's server...

I mean using

i mod on another forum (we use vBulletin) and we allow pics to be posted. there's a set of rules that has to be followed with the pics, and even then they have to be released by a mod before the forum users can see them. works top.

they need to have system where you submit a pic for a certain post, and the mod oks or denies it.

it's fine the way it is. I'm on other forums with inline pics and it gets annoying with having to scroll and scroll... especially with people quoting the pics which in effect duplicates them...

It's fine the way it is with clicks.

It works for Vortex because they are almost always on-topic (e.g. pics of cool cars).

I can't imagine the rif-raf that would be posted in ATOT...

they should change that, so when you quote a pick it only shows the pick link, not the actual pic itself.

If the mods didn't already have a full plate I think this would be a good solution.
