I say ... let the user decide. Put an option up on user profile for displaying images.
For those that have it enabled, an tag would display the picture. For those who have it disabled, a link for the image comes up.

Simple idea ... and you have the best of both worlds.[/quote]

That sounds like a GREAT idea

Uhhh... wow. Not sure why that hasn't been done yet. Just put a giant "NO IMAGES" button somewhere convienent.

NFS4, wow, pretty funny coming from you. You know that there is huge room for abusing the pictures. I like it how it is because we can come here from work and never be alarmed by goatse.cx or any other NSFW pictures.

If you read the thread (or even the last few posts), you'll see that we have a solution for that 😛

No, because most of us value being able to read this at work and can't afford our jobs because some sh*t put up some porn. . .

While I'm at it can we ever have the sort by date posted feature back?

I agree. The pics would make the forums look much less professional, BUT given an option to display the link would make this an awesome feature.

Agreed. There should be an option to display images as a link if preferred.

i voted yes

i agree it wouldn;t be a load unless the viewer was on dialup
BUT there is on prob, some ppl would post HUGE 1600x1200x pics, or what is someone posted 24 of the same size pics? would be a horrible experience!!!

maybe if the size and # of pics allowed per thread was regulated it would be perfect

Yes, but there should be a profile option to turn the pictures into links for dial-up users or people at school\work, or those that just don't want to see them.

EDIT: Should have read the whole thread...

Yes, absolutely!

Most of you must not visit other forums or something - it's really, really rare that someone posts a NSFW picture. For those irrationally worried about that, allow a "don't show images" option in member profiles. Bandwidth shouldn't be a consideration either - pictures would be hosted on the same free hosts we've had available for years, and people who are still on dialup deserve to suffer.

Yes but you forget that ATOT can be a bit unruly sometimes. And the Mods would most likely complain if they had to sort through pictures submissions everyday. I voted No.

Can we quit bashing people still on dial-up? A lot of them either don't have cable\DSL in their area or can't justify the cost, or are traveling and in a hotel room on some ancient phone lines, etc. Just because they don't have broadband doesn't mean they are inferior.

What is wrong with simply linking to the images?

Maybe. Limited to 800x600, no more than say... 1m a shot. NOTHING in signatures beyond emoticons.

they need to have system where you submit a pic for a certain post, and the mod oks or denies it.

Sounds likea good idea, but how feasible is it? Do the mods have enough attention to spare?

Whatever happens, NO pics in signatures! Please.

And hopefully nothing that throws the already outrageous resolution required by the forums to be thrown any more out of whack.

There was a time when you could post pictures here but some of them were so darn big that it would take forever to load. and then of course there were the hooter pix which got deleted.
I can remember 1 week that guys were posting pictures of their cars right off their cameras, it did not take long for Anand to decide this was not good fo the forum.

Bleep

I voted no.
Would I like the ability to post pics? Yes.
Would people abuse the pic posting capability? Goes without saying.
It just makes more sense not to even open that can of worms. We all know that eventually someone would screw it up for the rest of us and it would be disabled.
