YES...
Just set an upload limit of 150-200kb. And a member total upload of 1/2-1mb.
That should be enough for anybody. :)

AT wouldn't host them, they'd be on independant hosts. The only thing that AT could do is limit the size to something like 640x480 or something else that won't throw the page off kilter for the inferior ones running at 1024x768.

yeah i kinda agree with this.

They use to allow pics to be posted but the mindless pimple farmers that mostly populate ATOT would constantly post pics of some chick slobbing some guys knob or worse so they pulled that picture posting feature.

I forgot nothing; people aren't that rowdy, after an initial settling-in period anyways.

What is wrong with simply linking to the images?
As NFS4 will tell you, the flow feels totally different when you have inline images. It's much better.

This isn't the early nineties...we can take a step into the world of multimedia already people!

That does not solve the moderation issue.

I'm still against it. :p

What moderation issue? They constantly have to monitor all the links to make sure they adhere to the rules how is an inline image any different?

Exactly ... this would make life EASIER for the mods, since they don't have to open each link.

Having these images inserted directly into the thread while being hosted elsewhere could possibly cause the thread to take longer to display as well as cause issues with threads when the picture is no longer located in the original posted location.

No, you just don't understand... one can't say a word of bad against people of other sexual preferences, other nationalities, or religions (well, maybe in P&N), but it's fine to bash people who have no choice other than dialup. Obviously the broadband-spoiled children fail to realize that some of us HAVE NO CHOICE... we would get broadband if we could, it's not like we're sticking to B&W TV or tube-powered EINACs just for the fun of it.

So anyway, the fvck-the-dialup-crowd people can please STFU, and we'll move on to other topics.

The moderation issues have already been discussed, and that's something that can only be decided by the mods themselves.

rblodoe's (sp?) inline-or-link idea is good, and would be a necessity if the inline image feature were implemented.

Now, if AT isn't hosting the images on their server (which they wouldn't), then how are they supposed to be able to check the dimensions of the pictures that are posted. It could be done, but that would probably put quite a load on AT's servers, because they would still have to download each image to check it for the proper dimensions. Of course, the affluent broadband crowd can also be expected to have dual 21 inch CRTs at 2048x1536, so screw the people who can't afford as much, and don't bother with the image size checking. But anyway, if people can't be bothered to resize 6MP JPEGs out of their digital cameras even now, what makes one think that they would do it voluntarily if they did link the images inline?

236,089 total posts. the software doesnt give a readout on posts per day but i would ballpark it at 400 weekdays, 900 weekends.

Not bad, but imagine what the AT Mods would have to deal with.

well if they'd just make you and i into mods, they wouldnt have to worry about it would they?

Don't know about you, but they would never make an a$$hole like me a mod.

Don't be so hard on yourself min

Anyways, no flaming way do I want images enabled on these forums, all the little wannabe photoshop experts would end up putting their tacky little "Im t3h uB3r 1337" sig pictures in that alone take up half the screen and, the mods would have way too much to moderate.

Sorry to be an ass about it but I like the clean look to anandtech and I want it to stay that way.

That is all.

I say ... let the user decide. Put an option up on user profile for displaying images.
For those that have it enabled, an tag would display the picture. For those who have it disabled, a link for the image comes up.

No, as someone would have to sift through and approve/view every picture. No one on staff has the time to do that. If you think that everyone would be mature and responsible about it, look around :)

Do they get posted now? I'm completely against allowing pics in posts but the moderation issue is a joke as already stated.

It's EASIER to moderate pics that appear directly in the thread than it is to moderate links.

I'm against the pics in threads because it looks like crap on every other forum and would be no different here.

If you don't like the way it looks you would have a choice to display them as links only.
