Ars Technica's review of MW2 gave it the verdict 'Skip'.

I concur. you spend almost as much time watching the campaign as actually playing it

and dont mind groups of baddies spawning behind you at a save point so you can die 30 times in a row w/o even being able to fire a shot. god I loved the rio levels

I LOVE MW2. So incredibly cinematic. I love the clouds of red embers blowing with the wind in some levels. And the first person situations were off the hook!

I beat it in about 5 hours on regular. Going to play through it again on hard later tonight.

My buddy and I have been playing Spec Ops mode recently. Last night we played for at least 2 hours straight and it was a blast.

One example: Remember the AC130 gunship level from COD4? Have one player in that and the other as the guy on the ground. It's awesome blasting through and having your buddy rain down 40mm all around you!

Another great one was based on the first level of the sniper mission in COD4. Both players have suppressed sniper rifles and other weapons, and you're up against small patrols and enemy ghillie suit snipers. The AI isn't that good, so they don't really flank you or anything, but it's a lot of fun with a friend to play.

Spec Ops is a very cool mode that really adds another piece to MW2. Kind of wish it was 4 player co-op since I have 3 coworkers that I play L4D with a lot.

Agreed! Playing the Spec-Ops mode with my friend now (he just lost his net connection which happens frequently when we play, no idea why) and we are having tons of fun. We're currently doing the missions in order on veteran. We're at the AC-130 mission and its tough!

I think we started around 7:00 and its not 10:00 and we have no inclination to stop!

We ended up playing from about 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM last night non-stop. The co-op special ops missions are absolutely fun!

playing on Veteran to get the max amount of stars to unlock other stuff makes it pretty damn hard on some levels, but its still fun as hell.

I still haven't finished the SP yet and I've played at least 9 hours now.

Haha yeah my buddy didn't log on last night so I didn't do anymore Spec Ops. The multiplayer I did play last night was great though. 3/4 of the people had 4 bars and the rest had 3 bars for the most part. It sucks though it seems like everything is really good already.

I read the Echo Spec Ops missions are ridiculous. Like it is mostly killing a bunch of those Juggernaut dudes.

Is it just me or does this game run much worse than CoD4? I had no issues with the first. Now I get pretty bad stuttering at 1680x1050 on optimal settings. E6600@3.0ghz, 4gigs, 4870, and raptor HDD.

Game should be buttery smooth on your system according to these benchmarks:

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,...nchmarks-of-the-latest-Call-of-Duty/Practice/

averaging > 50 fps @ 1680x1050 w/ AA and AF cranked up. AMD has made some tremendously competitive graphics cards in the past year and a half, but I read and help about 3-4 times as many people solve performance problems with AMD GPU's than nvidia. Goes to show drivers and software are every bit as important as the hardware.

Oh, and so much for the boycott. LOL ---- I didn't buy it (don't think it's worth $60 to me), but Steam has nearly 100,000 people logged in right now playing MW2 multiplayer, and another 50,000 playing the single player portion. 150,000 simultaneous players for a game is absolutely H.U.G.E.

Something's wrong if you're getting serious stuttering. How high up is your AA, and are you using edge detect? If you're at 8x edge detect (effectively 24x AA), for instance, you might be running out of VRAM. I played through the campaign on a 4850 at 1680x1050 with 4x AA and all other settings at max, and the game was very smooth (the only noticeable slowdowns were in a few scenes with heavy smoke).

I don't know what it is, but yeah, single player comes to a crawl in some parts. Multiplayer is fluid but for some reason or something makes the game almost crash during the campaign. Cant make much sense of it.

Recommended AA was 2x. I turned it off and still had problems. Don't have edge detect on. Also tried turning off shadows and spectral map(I think that's what it's called?). The Burger King level absolutely destroyed me. I'd turn around and it would just stop for 3-4 seconds.

dude that should run the game easily and then some. i have a 8800gt and i am pretty fine running on that same resolution with 2x AA.

the spec ops missions, especially on Veteran, are fucking insane! We spent like 2 hours on the Gulag specops mission and still can't beat it. We either die or run out of time. 3 minutes is ridiculous and having tons of enemies at all sides, 1st and 2nd floor is too much. The guys with riot shields are way too tough. Whats the trick to killing them?

We've played specops like 9 hours over the past 2 nights, lol. We're on the Charlie level of specops missions. Definitely takes us many tries to finish a level.

I love the silenced sniper missions. I could play a game that just had that type of gameplay.

Still haven't finished SP yet. Says I played for 6 hours but it seems a lot longer than that.

Definitely an awesome game worth the $60.

Just finished the campaign (started this morning). Pretty fun, though I definitely wish they had added an AC-130 mission. The predator was neat, but I want more.

joshsquall: My system runs it worst than I expected too. I started it up and went to 1680x1050, 4x AA, max textures, but it was hitching some which lead me to believe I was running out of VRAM. So I dropped textures to Automatic and AA to 2x, and it's a lot better. It still hitches every now and then, but it's very minor and basically good as any other game. Like it was never anywhere near those 3-4 second pauses you have but worse than expected.

MW1 ran fine. I'm using old Catalyst drivers, 8.12 or so.

I have yet to find a significantly lagged game. Heck last night was perfect. Everyone had 4 bars except one or two guys with three bars. I think I'll do that bar mod that shows 10 bars, but the game does feel alright.

Not perfect by any means, but decent enough IMO.
