Albuterol is albuterol. I bet other alternatives will be found. IT's only a propellant... or am I wrong?

This happens in 2009. Alternatives will be found by then if complaints are made and their is demand. Demand is key and complaints only help to notify the companies.

Anyway in regards to the drug companies I bet some drug companies are backing these "authoritairian socialists" as you call them amused. They will give them money in exchange for "helping to protect the enviroment". I don't see how that couldn't happen.

This is bullshit if there's not a comparable replacement then albuterol should not be phased out. I know there are alot of asthma sufferer's out there and I will personally let everyone I know to complain about this.

Albuterol is not being phased out. It is the propellant that is being phased out since it contains CFCs. Allegedly, the new propellant is not as good as the older, CFC propellant.

Advair is not a "replacement" for albuterol. I hope people realize that. Advair is a maintenance / long term drug and not an emergency drug. However, if it isn't working you can always up the dosage.

I don't think albuterol really "sprays" deep into the lungs. You are supposed to hold it at a distance from your mouth anyway and breath in. I think the issue is that the powdered forms aren't adequately atomized. I'm sure someone will eventually come up with a "pocket nebulizer". And they'll only charge $400 per 60 uses for it. Those nebulizers are several orders of magnitude more effective than the CFC spray anyway.

The FDA should not be able to lift the exemption without forcing generics to be available / patents to be void. I already have a $250/month advair prescription. Now I have to worry about a ludicrously expensive albuterol thing too...

Funny you should mention that. My insurance does not cover the new expensive CFC replacement. The one they do cover has not been in stock at my pharmacy since I needed a refill over a month ago. So I have the choice to fork out the whole sum, or keep waiting.

I ended up just buying a $9 primatine mist at walmart for now. Great deal for me! Someone needs to go break some knee caps over at the FDA.

Also, if you have ever been about 20 feet under water and completely out of breath, you 'might' be able to understand what goes through someone's mind when they are having an athsma attack.

Show some respect please.

"Albuterol" in its generic form usually refers to the albuterol inhaler itself and not the generic drug. I apologize for not being specific. I guess because you are stupid you weren't able to infer the difference. As opposed to Paddington who flat out denied that there is any sort of ban at all.

I use an inhaler and every doctor I've ever visited about asthma (granted, that is only 4 doctors) has told me not to hold the inhaler that close because it is less effective. Google would seem to confirm that you are supposed to hold it a couple of inches away for maximum effectiveness.

Most adult asthma patients are used to dealing with the anxiety that occurs during an attack, when you're desperately trying to find an inhaler. The demographic I really feel sorry for is little kids. When they get an attack, they get very nervous and confused, which inhibits them from correctly using an inhaler. Then, they start crying, which only aggravates the attack. Having a weaker inhaler means having a longer attack, and possibly resulting in damage to the lungs.
