I will also say however, the inhaler I got was a different brand than I previously had, but also I bought it from a difference CVS so I figured this CVS just used a different brand of it.

it was $10 like they normally are though.

Wow, I never heard of this. My albuterol inhaler is the only thing I use to control my ashtma and I was planning on making an appointment soon so that I could get a refill.

Is it really impossible to get now, or are doctors just slowly moving away from it? I wouldn't be above stocking up now or going on the black market to get more, if there are no alternatives that can do the same thing as albuterol.

Well, I'm off to the gym.

The GF will be ordering some albuterol from overseas now.

I'll let the asthmatics discuss this topic since I'm probably not as versed as they are.

Needless to say, it seems the majority of people with asthma are, or will be suffering because of this. To me, that's unacceptable.

Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and a few others have phased it out already.

You can get 3 for $50 at XLPharmacy.com

Um, no. Read the thread I posted. The non-CFC propellant is NOT as effective and offers little to no relief in many people.

No jerking knee here, buddy. More like suffering people.

A knee-jerk would be worrying about this without trying it. These are people who have switched, and are now suffering.

The same drug is useless if not effectively dispersed in the airways.

I had no idea they banned albuterol. I still have two albuterol inhalers lying around and I'm not letting go of them!

Is this ban being enforced in Mexico/Canada as well?

Even though I rarely use an inhaler now (maybe once a year), I remember when I was much younger, albuterol was "too ineffective" for me. They had me on an inhaler with steroids (or some such). When I was switched to albuterol, it took a month or so for it to have any significant effect. Maybe the human body will grow accustomed to the new inhalers over time?

HFA inhalers cost $30 to $60, compared with $5 to $25 for a generic CFC inhaler, says the ALA Web page.

That's ridiculous.

OK, let's be clear here since it is causing confusion.

Albuterol IS NOT BANNNED. The Albuterol inhaler that uses CFCs as the propellant will be banned at the end of 2008. Many pharmacies are already making the switch to a new inhaler that STILL USES Albuterol BUT the new non-CFC propellant isn't nearly as effective at delivering the medicine to the lungs and costs much much more.

How much of the stuff do you asthmatics go through? If it's a lot, it could very well be a significant impact on the ozone. We assume it's insignificant, but we could very well be wrong, considering how many asthma sufferers there are.

That sucks, they need to get a clue and fix that. I still don't get how they can charge more for something that's less effective

Because it hasn't reached "generic" status yet.

This is the first I heard of this and it seems like an extremely stupid law.

I am someone who supports stricter emmisions requirements for power plants and auto industries, but asthma inhalers???

It doesnt make a lot of sense to ban something that is not only vital to peoples lives, but also will make a negligible reduction of CFCs in the first place.

guess ill stock up on the albuterol. I only need it when i go home (allergic responses) and it works like a charm. After one puff, i go from not being able to breathe to having full lung capacity. This is terrible news for asthma sufferers. If the replacement is only half as effective, thats not acceptable.

To save the environment. Same crew that banned DDT, which is a nasty chemical, but did far more good than harm.

Which crew is that? The vast left wing conspiracy that works in unison?

You'd think they'd just find another delivery system, does a nebulizer also use CFCs?

No, but a nebulizer is the size of a large suitcase.

Rather hard to fit in one's pocket.

Thanks. I'll definitely give the new inhalers a chance, but if they don't work as well I won't hesitate to buy the old kind online.

I'm all for a clean environment, but I don't value that over the ability to breathe.

Right, that explains part of it although I still don't get why anyone is prescribing it if it's junk?
