From a medical standpoint if these new inhalers aren't as forceful as the old then the asthma sufferers are probably not getting the dose that they are used to, this is probably why they feel they aren't working because not enough is getting to the bronchi/bronchioles. Inhaled sprays are woefully inefficient at getting any decent amount down in the lungs in the first place so a less forceful spray isn't so great.

And yes albuterol is NOT banned just the CFC's that propel them.

And no the alternatives aren't that great because alot of the alternatives are NOT as fast acting as albuterol.

Much ado about nothing.

FDA has announced that albuterol metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) using chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellants must no longer be produced, marketed, or sold in the United States after December 31, 2008. The federal agency took the action through publication yesterday of a final rule in the Federal Register.

The agency said that sufficient supplies of two approved, environmentally friendly albuterol inhalers will exist by that time to allow the phasing out of similar less environmentally friendly versions.

Maybe you should read this thread, and the thread I posted.

Your post is much ado about ignorance.

don't forget, the CFC ban led to the foam on the space shuttle falling apart and damaging the orbiter!

I'll back up Amused on this one - the albuterol inhalers with the new propellent - for whatever reason - don't work nearly as well as the CFC ones.

I use Maxair (pirbuteral) which isn't too expensive ($35 through insurance for a 400 puff inhaler).

Edit: I just got this one 3 weeks ago. Looking at the paper inside the box, the propellant is a mixture of trichloromonofluoromethane and dichlorodifluoromethane (CFCs) with sorbitan trioleate.

Looks like your girlfriend has been excluded through natural selection. I would avoid procreation as to avoid producing inferior offspring.

That said, you shouldn't have much difficulty ordering the stuff online.

Looks like you have been excluded from our forums for a month through our selection. When you return, another post like that may be your last on our forums.

LOL. I was given a sample of Proventil HFA just recently, so I will never really know how effective a CFC based Albuterol inhaler will be. Sucks for you asthmatics.

I know they changed my wife's rescue inhaler recently. Thankfully she hasn't had an attack in years, so I don't need to buy many. Oh, and insurance FTW.

Albuterol has been available in Europe (where it's called salbutamol) in CFC free inhaler form for several years. There's no real difference in efficacy (in trials) - although many people report a difference in taste, and may need to change their technique slightly. (The different velocity spray may not feel the same on the back of the throat, etc.)

Does Glaxo still sell those rotahaler things? I used to have those when I was little - had a dispenser that would break open a capsule ( gelcap type filled with albuterol powder ).

In some countries you dont even need a prescription to get albuterol/ventolin/salbutamol and it costs ~5USD.

You'd lose your dollars AND donuts

This has been brought about by the Montreal Protocol and the Clean Air Act. Medical devices were exempt unless a "viable" alternative was found. The new inhalers are considered "viable" therefore the ban has been phased in.

So yes, it was those "damn liberals." (Authoritarian socialists, actually... there is nothing "liberal" about a so called liberal)

Yet again, in yet another thread, you make a damn fool of yourself.
