I don't know which GTP you are referring to, but I owned a 2004 Grand Prix GTP (series III 3800/eaton SC) a few years ago, and that had no SC whine at idle. If it does, it either isn't stock, or isn't running right. You really had to lay into it before the SC whine became prominent.

I have a Series II 3800, and mine is the same as yours. There is no whine, I can't even hear it at full boost.
 
That is because you drive a shitbox that does not make enough HP to even turn a supercharger so you are stuck with a turbo.

really? that's why people with Ford GT's remove the supercharger in favor of turbos to make 'big' power... and then the twin turbo'd vipers, lambos, etc.

sure, talk smack about my cars. both of my fun cars make 500+ whp. and one of those shitboxes does it from a 2.0 4-banger. let's see some dyno charts of your cars
 
The V6 is the best seller. Without it, they probably could not sell the Mustang at all...

The Camaro is still killing the Mustang in sales, I think.

It's hardly "killing" the Mustang.
Also, a lot of "sales" numbers don't actually indicate number of vehicles sold to customers like you are I. A lot of those sales numbers are dealerships purchasing the cars, as they do purchase them from the MFGer through various means.
Go look at dealership lots. The Ford lots don't have a lot of Mustangs on them, the 2 Chevy dealerships I drive by every day have tons of Camaros on the lots. The same ones they've had for months.

Drive around your city and count the cars. Around here it's about 4 2010-up mustangs for every Camaro I see.

FWIW I've seen 600cc engines successfully implement superchargers.

500hp 4 cylinder engines just won't last. Not knocking your choice in cars or engines, just sayin.

For street use i don't see why it won't go 100k miles. That's a lot of miles when i put 6-7k miles on it a year. Rebuilds are not that much money or effort so not a big deal if it does blow
 
The whine is belt noise. Unless you take the gilmer belt off the drive pully, it's going to whine. Now, the whine will get louder when the recirculation valve closes and it's making boost, and with good sound insulation I suppose they could cover up most of the off-boost whine, but I've yet to hear a supercharged car that didn't make at least some tell-tale whine at idle.

To clarify: There is no gilmer belt on the 2012 GT500, and there is ZERO perceptible whine at idle or under light load (lots of great exhaust noise, though). There is definite supercharger whine when you start to really get on the throttle, however.

I could see it being dealers or number games with a 5 or 10% lead, but the Camaro has something like 30% more sales than the Mustang for the year.

It was 9,451 to 6,607 in May alone. That's getting close to 50% more for the Chevy.

Make sense. When the Camaro was the better car, it was outsold by the Mustang and now the tables have turned. The Camaro is still "new" compared to the Mustang. Yes, we understand that it has new engines and suspension, but to the average consumer, it's the same retro design that's been around for 6 years now.

I know my engine is not the same as yours, but I took all the shrouding off and I still can't hear any whine from mine. Also no gilmer belt here. Only if I get into, can you hear it.

Take a 500hp V8 and a 500HP I4, boxer, whatever, to the track and run all day. One of them is getting towed home. 😛

It should be a 1000+ HP V8 vs a 500 HP I4 if you want all things being equal.

Of course a heavily modified car is going to have more chance for failure than a virtually stock one.

Apparently this will be the first Mustang sold in the UK with right hand drive. It will be smaller and lighter than the current model, with independent rear suspension. Sounds pretty sweet.

I got it from here. It's not clear if it's an artists conception or an official ford illustration.

Looks like an artist illustration, taking heavy cues from that Italdesign Mustang concept from a few years ago.

Personally, I have no problem with a turbo 4, and the only reason I hated the older V6 Camaro and Mustang was that those were not very good engines. Now they're considerably better. As long as its a good engine, I say the more options the better.

I hate supercharger whine, especially on a big V8 (if its very pronounced like in the video posted). Its like the War of the Worlds remake with the girl constantly screaming over low frequency sounds.

I'm also baffled at the person saying superchargers sound better than turbos, as you rarely can hear turbos over the exhaust noise (then again, maybe that's their point, they want to hear that whining?).

I have to say I love what I'm reading. The Corvette and now this, sounds great to me personally.
