Well for starters, autoblog has some pictures and story regarding the next Shelby GT500. The spy shots show the car sporting an intercooler, which suggests turbo, which suggests two turbos.

Autoblog points out how the supercharger has parasitic engine loss and that multiple vanes reduce turbo lag a good deal. Which means a 25 mpg V8 engine producing 500+ could be coming.

However, rumors for the new 2014 Mustang Model (which will be the 50th anniversary thereof) say there will be a four cylinder 2.5L eco boost option as well as the beefy 5.0 option. It also says IRS. The current gen of Mustangs had also been designed for IRS, but it had been pulled at the last minute. We shall see...

And could the new Shelby not only get twin turbos, but an IRS as well?

I read somewhere that the 2013 GT500 is supposed to have a 5.8L supercharged engine producing in the mid 600 hp range.

Well, the small ecoboost engines are definitely coming. The Ford site already lists a 2.0L one for the 2012 Taurus.

If true l, I don't like any of it. This is not how a Mustang should be put together....I mean a 4 cylinder? AFAIK the shitty looking fox body was the only one to sport one of those.

No it wasn't. The even shittier Mustang IIs also came with 4 bangers.

IMO, Ford shouldn't even be making V6 Mustangs, but they do.

Um... GT500 has always had an intercooler.

Autoblog addresses this:

If you take a close look, you can see piping through the upper and lower grille as well as the vehicle's mocked-up fog light openings. Chances are the new equipment is merely part of a scheme to make the vehicle's supercharger a little more efficient, though it's entirely possible that the big bad snake is rocking something exciting under its hood. Something like a twin turbocharged V8.

I personally wouldn't mind this :p

The V6 is the best seller. Without it, they probably could not sell the Mustang at all...

The Camaro is still killing the Mustang in sales, I think.

Oh, I understand WHY Ford sells the V6 model, I just don't think they should. Not offering a V6 option would be a dumb financial move.

Same goes with the Camaro. I see A LOT of Camaros, but I'd say 95% of them are V6s. :(

Heh, and I just *had* to go ahead and buy the '12 model... Still, the main problem with the car is that given the stock suspension it can't get the 550hp it's already got to the ground.

Still, if I ever feel horsepower envy, Ford Racing has a 50 state legal supercharger upgrade that bumps power output to 750hp. I'm not worried :)

You car is still gorgeous and I envy you for owning a Cobra. I still love my 05, but would definitely give it up for any year GT500.

The v6 Mustang smacks the 370z around. So why not have a v6.

You got that right....eargasmic I call it.

Here is a video of a GT500 with the Super Snake 725HP upgrade....listen to that blower

Super Snake

Sounds better than a turbo...but even still, I prefer all engine cars sound wise. I'm not saying I wouldn't get a SC for performance reasons, but straight muscle with a good sounding exhaust sounds amazing. One of the main reasons I want to get a cam job in my Camaro is the sound.
