Basically, the Miami Heat told Shaq that he should be prepared for a trade, should it happen. One of the rumors (which almost always never seem to be true) has him going to Phoenix for Marion and Marcus Banks.

I'm not sure how he fits into the run-and-gun offense, as he seems to lack just a bit of the "run". And, his contract isn't up for 2 years, so unless Phoenix plans on buying him out, I don't see any real salary cap space either.

But Amare and Shaq as your front line? LOL. Could be fun to watch.

EDIT

It's official. Shaq to the Suns.

Man, if the suns get rid of Marion for Shaq I will be pissed. IMHO Shaq is done in his career and should retire very soon.

Shaq isn't even an expiring contract. Unless Miami throws in this year's first round pick (unprotected), that makes no sense for Phoenix.

Shaq is done. Phoenix would be stupid to make a deal for him that involved Marion, or any other decent player.

LOL. What a horrible overreaction to Pau Gasol coming to the Lakers that would be if Phoenix did that. Excellent trade for Miami though if it goes down.

find someone else other than marion and shaq would be a great backup for Amare. Imagine a Shaq that is only required to log 15-18 minutes a game.

Marion is too good on both sides of the ball, giving him up means pulling the string on an already fragile D.

Shaq's big ass is going to be parked in the middle of the lane while Nash is going to be running into him left and right. The Suns offense is based on spread it out drive and kick, Shaq's not mobile enough to spread out, then crash the glass and then run up and down. Not only are you disrupting the Sun's offense, Amare would then have to work from the high post and that makes him a jumpshooter. If he drives, Shaq and his defenders will be clogging the lane.

A year or two ago this trade might make sense, since inside presence is the only thing Suns are missing. Also, I think if Marion were to be traded he would become a pretty average player without Steve Nash.

ESPN is reporting as well. WOW What a trade!!! It's awesome having Shaq back in the West!!

Both ESPN and Yahoo's reports are pending Shaq's physical, with his recent hip troubles, it's not necessarily a done deal. As a Lakers fan, this makes sun/lakers that much more interesting. I still don't think its a good trade for the Suns though. What they lose with Marion will be difficult to make up with Shaq in his current state. The rebounds, the defense, and finishing on the break will be sorely missed.

Assuming they play the Lakers in the playoffs:
Shaq/Bynum matchup is a push imo, Bynum is more athletic, can run the floor.
Gasol/Stoudemire: Slightly in favor of Amare but since neither play much D, it'll be a shootout
Odom/??? : I don't know who the suns will throw out at the three but suffice to say Odom will have a huge size advantage.
Kobe/Raja: Raja's been injured this year, Kobe should dominate.
Fisher and Farmar/Nash: Suns have the edge but the combination of fisher and farmar means when Nash sits, Lakers have a huge advantage at the point.

Kobe and Fisher have been doing a great job with penetration this year, with Nash's non-existent Defense, the front line of Shaq and Amare will be exposed to potential foul trouble.

If this trade was done in response to the Gasol trade, the Suns are pushing the panic button and making a mistake. Shaq's age and health means his minutes will be limited, and without him on the floor and Marion gone, who is going to play any defense for the the Suns?

The Lakers/Suns rivalry has been one of the most exciting playoff series in the recent past--maybe next to the Suns/Spurs series--but this just makes it 10x more exciting with Kobe/Shaq mixed into the storyline and a Spaniard tossed in there too.

Great minds think alike :)

i'd love to see Kobe/Bynum make Shaq look like the 50 year old/500 lb freak that he is..

haha as a lakers fan, I really want the suns to get Shaq. Man, the trade doesn't make real sense to me. I can see how this will be good, but I still do love watching the Suns play because they're really a joy to watch. Even though I am a Lakers fan, The Suns have always been my 3rd fav team (behind Clips) since the early 90s. Ah well, this will probably, IMO, ensure that the Lakers beat the Suns in the playoffs, yay :)
