My condolenences to Gamingphreek and any other VT freshmen, I'm sorry this had to be your first day of school here. I haven't seen the residential side of campus, but from the sound of it they have it locked down tight and are doing everything they can to protect you guys.

My prayers are with the two men killed and their families.

haha, my buddy is starting vet school today at VTech and i just got a call from him about this.

obviously the deaths/injuries aren't funny, but it's an absolutely ridiculous way to kickoff the school year.

Talked with my brother about this this morning.

link @ Roanoke TImes
UPDATED 2:34 p.m.

The Montgomery County Jail confirmed that a Michael Morva is being held, though jail staff would not confirm that this is shooting suspect William Morva's brother. The Michael Morva in the jail faces two charges of attempting to commit burglary, two charges of conspiring to commit burglary, and two charges of attempted grand larceny. The dates for the offenses match charges against William Morva related to attempted thefts last year. The employer of William Morva's brother said that Michael Morva was arrested recently. She called Michael Morva a good worker who tried to help his brother pay for an attorney to represent him on the charges from last year.

The lockdown here has been rediculous. I was on the south side of campus, trying to get to my apartment on Ramble Road, near Virginia Tech Airport. There are officers with assault rifles every 200 yards. Almost every road on the south side of campus is closed. I have seen over 100 officers from the Virginia Tech PD, Montgomery County PD, Blacksburg PD, and VA State Police. 90% of those were carrying assault rifles. I got out of class around 10:30 when they evacuated, and i just got home, 5 hours later. They were not allowing traffic in until just now. Even when I entered, they were searching every car that was leaving at gunpoint. It is pretty amazing how tight they locked everything down so quickly.

Too Bad because hes probably not even close to the campus anymore. Everytime they do these security checkpoints, the guy is way out of the perimeter already..

It would have been better for everyone if they had just shot him... :|

I mean, they shoot some kid with a broom handle but not an armed and dangerous murderer?

Killing 2 people in cold blood earns you a bullet from one of those assault rifles, IMHO.

You got to make sure it's him first. That's why I'm glad the police are professionals and not emotional kneejerks.

Reports say that he was found just off of Tech Center drive.

That is marked where the drive is. They say he was in the woods just off of there. I am just off of Washington Street in the dorms there. He was not 5 minutes away from my dorms! Wow, nice job by the police!
