I have a pretty awesome schedule. Only one day do i have a class at 10AM. The rest of the days i have classes from ~12-5. But i have Fridays completely free. And yes, i made sure i left plenty of time to get from class to class. Hopefully that works out as good as it sounds like it will.

I hate you so much. :p

In 4.5 year of engineering school I've never been able to have a semester where I have a day that starts after 10AM. :|

well i'm entering my 4th year of college and i've lived in the all male dorm in the last two years. there were bathrooms with shower stalls so i was lucky. :D

but it was fun, all male dorms + "lan" parties = fun fun fun. i've done that and it was insane, 64 players and gah!

edit: now i'm going to live in a townhouse. no more dorms for me, i've had enough.

How are you going to college at 14?

BTW, I have have tshirts that are as old as you. Really.

I was going to point that out but decided against it .

WTF? Are you and I the only smart (smart /= intelligence to get into college early!) people in this thread? Does common sense no longer have a place in our society? WTF?

Apparently not being an ass no longer has a place in our society...

*sigh*
When you grow enough hair on your face to shave more than once a month, maybe you'll have the life-understanding to say that with emphasis and meaning. Right now, it sounds exactly like post-pubescent whining...oh wait...

You know, I've never been too impressed with the "I'm older than you so shut up" approach to arguing. Even I, at my meager "post-pubescent" age of 20, can tell when someone's being a dick. And you, sir, are being a dick. Just my 2 cents. Of course, why should you listen to me? You're one of only two smart people in this thread, nay, in society at large!

Meet everyone, always take the initiative to strike up conversations with strangers (may feel awkward at first, but only gets more awkward the further away you get from being a freshmen). Don't be in a big hurry to find a girlfriend/best friend, just hang out with folks. When class starts, you'll get pretty busy in a big hurry, but everyone else will be just as busy, so don't worry about being a loser having to do work all the time.

Nice, I'm a freshman at IU this year :) I'm in Eigenmann, it looks pretty sweet (though kind of out of the way from everything)

Dont know if anyone mentioned it. But Taco Bell is your god for late night study sessions. Taco Bell plus 32oz slurpee FTW!

Oh and enjoy the dorms for your freshman year then get the fvck out. It's for the better in the end especially when you get into harder classes

Just hope your first roomate isn't a douche. Mine was. He threatened to tell me on me for EVERYTHING. Then one time he told me on me for having a bottle of Vodka. I got written up AND got a ticket from the police. I don't think I've ever been so mad in my life. I can remember it vividly, sitting there in some dean's office, talking to a police officer. I wasn't really paying attention to what they were saying because all I could think of was getting my hands on that little rat.

When I got back to the room, he wasn't there. A neighbor told me he was in the shower. I went to the shower, there was no one else there but him, so I went right up behind him and yelled "HEY" he turned around and I nailed him right in the left side of his nose. He started to go down but I slammed him up against the wall (I'm getting sprayed by the shower now.) I screamed some swear words at him, he started to mutter something back so I backed off and slammed him in the nose one more time. This time it broke. There was blood EVERYWHERE. I said, "If you ever tell on me again, I WILL break your arm. So when you go to get your nose checked out, tell them you fvcking slipped in the shower."

The most memorable part of the whole thing was when I was walking back to my room, half soaked and spotted with blood, the neighbor who directed me to the shower leaned out and gave me the most shocked look. It etched itself in my memory.

I got a different roomate the next year, with no more trouble from the douchebag.

Oh yeah, hook 'em baby. :D

Make sure you have a college exit strategy.

I can't agree enough. I lived in the dorms all four years during college (spent 3 years as an RA, which was a blast) and I can tell ya that you'll definately want some sandles if you have community showers.

You'll move all your stuff into your Dorm. A dreaded feeling will come over you and you'll think, WTF am I doing here this is going to suck. Then you'll walk outside to see your family off, wishing you could go with them. As your family pulls away you'll suddenly notice the hoards of hot girls walking around, and you'll make friends with the dude standing next to you. That dreaded feeling will be washed away and you will be more excited then ever.

That was a perfect description.

Yep, when you're alone for the first time and it hits you that you're pretty much not going to be living at home anymore and what a big change your life is about to take it's a scary feeling, but if you take notice of what an interesting place you're in now and all the opportunites for fun around you, you'll get over that and enjoy yourself.

Good luck, and make the most of this time in your life!

That is pretty damn funny.

College is awesome. Whether to stay in the dorms or move of depends on the school - at Rice, on-campus is the way to be. I move in on the 26th and I am damn ready for it. One more week of this 6:30-4 nonsense.

I'm extremely jealous. College was by far the best time of my life. There were a lot of good tips here. I'll repeat some:

Shower Sandals: Definately. I always wore them, then took a martial arts class and got athlete's foot anyways... :/

If you're the partying type, make SURE, no matter what state you are in, to GO TO CLASS. Don't skip ONCE if you can help it. The profs will notice.

If you're the bookworm type, GET OUT AND MEET PEOPLE. Attend parties, functions, and all the other free stuff college offers. Balance your social life with your books. Leaning too hard either way will rob you of the best exerience of your life.

Dont be afraid to do your own thing. I noticed in the school paper that Joe Clark (who the movie Lean on Me was based) was giving a free lecture. I was excited, but no-one would go with me! I went by myself and it was great! There weren't very many people there, and those that were didn't look happy and were taking notes... Probably for class... I was disappointed.

Leave your prejudices at the door. Everyone there is a potential friend! Talk to everyone! I never joined a frat, because I found I could barely balance my old friends from home with all my new college friends.

If you're not the work-out type, make sure to get involved with all the amenities that the school gym offers! 'Specially any training. I had a great time with the martial arts, swimming, racketball/wallyball facilities. I'll never be in as good a shape was I was in college. I LOST weight! :)

TALK TO YOUR PROFS! Talk during class and visit them during your office our if you have questions or concerns about anything. Most profs love what they do and will really work with you.

Get a student job related to your field of interest. I worked in the computer labs for beer money and that equated to real IT experience on my resume. I only had a bachelors in Graphic Arts, and 4 years of exp working IT, and NO CERTS, and walked right into a nice IT job in '98!

Oh man I remember that feeling. It wasn't the girls that hlped me get out of it (I was in a long-term relationship at the time) it was hte routine once classes got started. I'm a Senior this year, made some good friends and have had a great time. This will be by far the most challenging time of your life. Balance friends with school (school shold come first and your friends should understand that).

It feels terrible when your parents walk out of there and you realize that you are staying there for a while, alone. Go out, walk the campus and meet people right away. That's the best thing for you. I bet they have a Freshman mixer or something: go, have a good time.

On your first week, if you're alone, don't hesitate to walk through the dorms, poke your head in the door and introduce yourself. Especially with your neighbors. Chances are there are others in the same boat! Leave your door open, when you're in your room. That's always the invitation for people to stop by!

Might not hurt to ask around if people want to play cards late at night. Just for fun, of course. Gambling's wrong! ;) We had many penny poker nights! :)

You'll quickly notice that people start yelling "Going to breakfast/lunch/dinner!" during mealtimes. Don't be afraid to start the call!

Woohoo! 500th post! :)

You hit the nail on the head right there. Not only that knowing the i wont see my friends (My really really close friends) for a month or two (It would help if one person in particular that im trying to date wouldn't tell me that she has a secret but wont tell me until late August). I dont know im just overwhelmed right now. All my friends said that they guarantee that i will have NO problems making friends (Which is comforting). But still the sheer amount of people that you dont know and the stuff you have to do is so unnerving.

WHen i moved in upperclassmen were helping people move in and i met these two Christian guys (Would have been pretty cool if it were girls but, i do live in an all guys dorm lol) and they invited me to the small group thing on Wednesdays and they as well as the rest of the people in this group are having a cookout on Saturday. So ill probably go to that and hopefully meet up with some people.

So yeah, im in the dorm right now. Parents left around 8:00 last night and then we went to work getting the rest of the dorm fixed up. It looks pretty damn awesome if you ask me! (Gotta love the Campus internet ;) )

Get off the dang campus internet and get outside and start chasing tail. Remember the goal of college is not only to get a book education but to nail as much hot ass as possible. save the relationship garbage for after.
