Bought a pair for no reason. I'm not even close to an audiophile but all your positive comments talked me into it.

Hah, me too. Well, not for no reason exactly, but I've definitely not been planning a purchase like this. However, I've been kindof-wanting to upgrade my cheapo PC speakers since '05, and have never gotten around to it. Instead, if I can get some really good sound out of $75 headphones, then that'll be my new PC speakers when I'm in the mood for that kind of thing. I expect these will be much better than my speakers when playing music, and they'll probably be great for many of the games I play also (most aren't action games).

I thought the difference was subtle, but a good one. The biggest improvement for me was the soundstage mod, though I doubt many will want to do it given how it's permanent.

yeah, and everyone in the room gets to enjoy what u r listening to... these things already let out quite a bit of sound, they must as loud outside as inside if u pull out the rest of the stuff...

Got mine today! I've got them plugged in for burn-in right now. They feel tight on my head, no matter the extension of the arms -- so I've also got them spread over a head-sized ball to stretch out and hopefully loosen up a bit. My old HD570's are pretty loose and SO comfortable. Hopefully these 555's will loosen up as well.

got mine today, great phones for $75, well balanced and very pleased, thanks for the great deal OP.

hans, does the soundstage mod help to improve mid and low frequency response? the sound is just a little bit thin right now.

Maybe a tad. If anything, it smooths out the treble, which in turn helps out the lows and mids. If it's source related, an amp or nice soundcard will help out more than any mods.

I'm pretty sure you need some sort of certification to say that, LOL.. Or be an oscilloscope derivative.

Oh my god...I've been converted. They arrived this morning, so I plugged them in and started listening to some music, and the sound quality improvement is amazing over my old speakers or any other set of cheap headphones I've ever used. And they're just plugged into my onboard sound from my ASUS P5B Deluxe.

This purchase was very much worth it.

Keep Klipsch Promedia 2.1 or HD555?
You keep both....least I have. They provide two different listening environments.

Mine came today also but they're a Christmas present for my BIL.

I've had my HD-555s for a coupla years and coupled with my Xonar Essence STX they make some nice sounding tunes.

there is no doubt that i can here 'little things' (background noises, footsteps) in source material better with these than with the creative fatalitys or steelseries or plantronics gamecompro1 usb cans i've gotten from other deals... one of the kids has wandered off with my 280's, and i didn't use them hardly at all so can't compare...

How much does breaking them in help?

can't say, as i don't know how long and how much use it really takes to do that... i left them plugged in playing an alternative rock station overnight... we'll see if they get better with time...

I almost bought these but I ended up getting the Samsung SBH600 wired/wireless phones that were on Woot. Now I wish I'd bought both sets and compared them.

Breaking in isn't a myth, it happens, though not to the extent people think it does. When a speaker driver breaks in it merely means that the suspension has loosened up a bit which usually results in a lower resonant frequency for the driver. I design loudspeakers for a hobby and have been doing so for years. Before any experienced speaker designer designs an enclosure they will allow the drivers to break-in for a period of time. I normally do it for at least an hour at near xmax at around 20 hz. Some guys will go a day or more.

The people stating that once their speakers have broken in for a few weeks etc. and that the highs are crisper, the mids more fluid and the soundstage is wider...they are out of their minds. :)

Breaking is Doesn't work.

Speakers and Headphones don't need to be broken in......

This guy obviously doesn't know about driver design, their assembly, and the effects of ALL materials used in the speakers construction and how it relates to the "Breaking in" of speakers.

ROFL.

The Statement of the year.......

The whole notion of long term breakin is a fantasy created by subjectivevist audio mystics who write for consumer magazines. Nobody with any real technical education believes that kind of drivel, and I have a real technical education. My view however is tolerant compared to what some of the engineers I've talked to from Sennheiser have to say, German being such a fine language to express derision in.
