the fact that a senator who's got access to top secret government info, is being blackmailed .... should be a cause for concern.

Tells us more about your infatuation with republicans, Phokus... was Senator Craig a friend of the family?

Democrats apparently don't have morals, that's why it's not hypocritical for them to cheat.

Or they merely trust most people know what's moral and what isn't, and so don't feel a need to proclaim moral superiority when running for office. Neither Reps or Dems campaign on a platform about how it's wrong to use stray dogs as pinatas, but I don't think their failing to do so is equivalent to advocating the practice. Politicians who moralize about family values who are then found to be shitting all over them are douchebags and hypocrites; politicians who act immorally but who didn't make a claim to moral superiority are simply douchebags.

What?

Democrats proclaim moral superiority all the time, just with different issues. How many times have we seen Democrats admonishing the rich, clamoring for them to pay their fair share and that they owe it to society. Good thing we don't have any Democrat tax cheats.

Yea, good thing the Democrats don't make fun of him for being gay either, that'd make them bigots.

Whatever happened to the old lefty excuse, "They're only human...give them a break!"

When a Democrat gets caught doing something like this, the response from the left is, "Meh...who cares! He's only human, cut him some slack! Hey, /highfive, he was getting some on the side!"

When a Republican gets caught, the response from the left is quite different, "WHAT AN OUTRAGE! THIS HYPOCRITE CLAIMED TO BE A FAMILY MAN! THEREFORE EVERYTHING HE HAS EVER DONE AND SAID IS INVALID BECAUSE HE MADE A MISTAKE!"

Oh, the double standards...mmm...

In Ensigns own words:

In 1998, after President Bill Clinton admitted to having committed adultery with Monica Lewinsky, Ensign called on him to resign, saying, "He has no credibility left."

?Marriage recognizes the ideal of a father and mother living together to raise their children,? Ensign said. ?Marriage is the cornerstone on which our society was founded. For those who say that the Constitution is so sacred that we cannot or should not adopt the Federal Marriage Amendment, I would simply point out that marriage, and the sanctity of that institution, predates the American Constitution and the founding of our nation. Marriage, as a social institution, predates every other institution on which ordered society in America has relied.?

As others have also pointed out, it's the hypocrisy or double standard of Ensign which makes it worse for what he did. Frankly having an affair is not a big deal but double standard in a senior politician is.

It's because you guys tried to crucify clinton for his affair, but you seem to have a very different standard when it comes to your own. We just want you to be consistent, even though we already know you're hypocritical scumbags.

anyone in office lieing should be tried and impeached. Clinton. Bush. Whomever. Dont be a lil kid and sit there saying "HE DID IT TOO!" Grow up.

It must be tough to feel you have to defend Mr Ensign who is obviously a hypocrite.

I personally think it's nobody's business if this guy/gal is romping around with someone else... PROVIDED your not an outspoken advocate of family values and right-wing morals! Rated 100% by the Christian Coalition: a pro-family voting record. (Dec 2003)

SO here is a little on the fvcktard who slept with a married subordinate staffer... that's real family values!

# Voted YES on defining unborn child as eligible for SCHIP. (Mar 2008)
# Voted YES on prohibiting minors crossing state lines for abortion. (Mar 2008)
# Voted YES on barring HHS grants to organizations that perform abortions. (Oct 2007)
# Voted NO on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)
# Voted YES on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)
# Voted NO on $100M to reduce teen pregnancy by education & contraceptives. (Mar 2005)
# Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)
# Voted YES on banning partial birth abortions except for maternal life. (Mar 2003)
# Voted YES on recommending Constitutional ban on flag desecration. (Jun 2006)
# Voted YES on constitutional ban of same-sex marriage. (Jun 2006)
# Voted NO on adding sexual orientation to definition of hate crimes. (Jun 2002)
# Voted YES on loosening restrictions on cell phone wiretapping. (Oct 2001)
# Voted YES on ending the set-aside of 10% of highway fun
# Voted with Republican Party 91.7% of 314 votes. (Sep 2007)
# Voted YES on confirming Samuel Alito as Supreme Court Justice. (Jan 2006)
# Voted YES on confirming John Roberts for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. (Sep 2005)
# Rated 0% by the AU, indicating opposition to church-state separation. (Dec 2006)

This guy is a first class asshole and should be removed from representing anyone in this country.

SHUX

Wow, and they say the anger and hatred comes from the right...:Q

What does this guy's voting record have anything to do with him having an affair? Did he vote on any legislation about adultery?

Wasn't he separated when the affair occurred? I mean, it still isn't right for either party involved in the adultery, but being separated means the spouses are apart to explore other options and see if they want to stay together.

Um, this guy is REALLY big on the abstinence thing. You know, no sex outside of wedlock.

But I hear he's really, really sorry for his actions.

You guys are acting like people never let their vices get the better of them in spite of their beliefs... and yet:

1. We have some millions of fatties walking around the country, knowing they are taking years off their life, knowing they should lose weight, knowing they are gonna be a huge drain on medicare, etc. And they still order their big macs and don't exercise anyhow.... and thus stay fat. Why? Lack of will power.

2. We have tons of folks who smoke (or are alcoholics) and know they should stop smoking or drinking or their own health and their families well being... but don't.

3. personal example: I think drunk driving is horrible and wrong (most will agree but maybe not all) and yet I did drive drunk once when I really should not have been driving. I didn't get caught, I didn't hurt anyone (I was sober enough, maybe, to drive safe enough but damn)... but I definitely DUI'ed. I'm not proud of it but i did it... it was wrong. Does that now invalidate my stance that drunk driving is wrong because I did it once? Not at all.

Not saying I endorse this guy... but it is pretty stupid to throw his entire stance under the bus because he occasionally acts contrary to his beliefs, especially when it's sex which is the single largest piece of kryptonite for most men.

When he has been an aggressive proponent of the imposing on others the very stances that he has not followed, the protest against his hypocrisy are going to be aggressive too.

It's not about his vices - it's about the double standard and 'do as I say not as I do'.

Ensign's Parents Made Payments to Mistress, Her Family

The wealthy parents of Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) gave $96,000 last year to the staffer who was then his mistress and to her family, his attorney said yesterday.

The gifts to Cynthia L. Hampton and her family were given "out of concern for the well-being of longtime family friends during a difficult time," according to the lawyer, Paul Coggins.

Bad, but not nearly as bad as John Edwards converting money from his PAC to pay off Rielle Hunter. I wonder how the federal investigation is going?

Well, thank God he's no longer in office. Can the same be said of Ensign?

Slimy as he may be, he hasn't broken any laws. If his constituents want him out, they'll take care of it.

Don't claim moral superiority.

And Ensign may be investigated after all.

Group wants probe of alleged Ensign payment
By KATHLEEN HENNESSEY Associated Press Writer
Posted: 07/09/2009 12:08:01 PM PDT

LAS VEGAS?A Washington watchdog group is asking federal law enforcement authorities to investigate claims that Sen. John Ensign paid more than $25,000 in severance to his former mistress and did not properly report it.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington says it sent a letter on Thursday to Attorney General Eric Holder requesting the review.

Doug Hampton, the woman's husband, made the allegation in an interview taped Wednesday.

Until May 2008, Cindy Hampton was treasurer for two Ensign campaign committees.

Melanie Sloan, director of CREW, says the payment was not reported by the committees, meaning Ensign may have violated campaign finance laws.

A spokesman for Ensign has not specifically addressed the payment, but called Doug Hampton's statements inaccurate.

I guess you'd have to ask Rush Limbaugh that question.

Did Rush cheat on one of his wives, or did one of them have cancer? If so, please provide proof, because that's news to me.

What's wrong with this?

# Voted YES on criminal penalty for harming unborn fetus during other crime. (Mar 2004)

Though supporting abortion would probably make me a hypocrite.
