Fern

If you want to get your panties in a bunch about Mike Easley, start your own thread instead of posting in one it has nothing to do with.

If someone had said anything that could be answered with a 'ya but this other guy' post, fine, but it doesn't look like they did.

No kidding. Since when do mods get a free pass on thread derailment and trolling? FFS.

Newt Gingrich << John Edwards.

You are gonna lose if you try to go after the democrats on this - there are bad examples, take Clinton and JFK and LBJ (don't try to visualize it, I cannot be held liable for the injury), but the Republicans get them in number, degree, and hypocrisy. Not to mention the right-wing televagelists, but that's another matter.

The funny thing is, if Republicans behaved like angels, there would still be legitimate opposition to some of their socially conservative, restrictive 'forcing their values on others' positions - the hypocrisy is just an added level of problem with them that they are both sexually intolerant demagogues *and* hypocrits, in many cases.

Except cheating on your wife is "wrong" mainly due to a religious belief (the other would be that divorce really screws kids up, but you dont need to cheat for a divorce).

Pulling a John Edwards makes even the non-religious cringe.

Anyway what anyone does behind closed doors with another consenting adult is really none of anyone else's business if they are breaking no laws.

This includes Clinton, Edwards, etc.

Fine with me, but don't go arguing against gay marriage on some lame "sanctity of marriage" BS. In case you're wondering, and you seem to be, it's not the cheating that anyone cares about, it's the hypocrisy. I think you knew that though.

Ensign ran against Harry Reid and lost. It should be noted that Reid has his own share of "offensive" transgressions. Ensign ran against Ed Bernstein and won. Bernstein had no political experience and has little going for him, other than a crappy local TV show. Ensign most recently ran against Jack Carter and won. Jack Carter is the son of Jimmy Carter. Carter was a resident of Bermuda for 12 years before moving to Las Vegas in an attempt to "pick off" Ensign. It's no surprise that he lost, not everyone is delusional enough to think that an outsider has their best representation interests at heart. *cough*HillaryClintonNewYorkers*cough*

If Democrats actually believe that Ensign is "offensive", maybe the NV Democrats need to find a candidate that a) is qualified b) is at least arguably Nevadan and c) doesn't have his/her own skeletons.

Lost on Fern, the difference between:

His adultery is worse because I disagree on mlitary spending, gun policy, UHC; and

His adultery is worse because he ran on a platform of self-righteous family values as something that made him the guy to vote for over his opponent.

You're missing the point, Fern.

I didn't see any vote listed above where he voted to make infidelity illegal.

I'm not missing the point, the point itself is missing.

WTH do all the listed votes on abortion, flag desecration, SCOTUS judges, cell phone tapping and gay issues have to do with him screwing some other woman? IMO, nothing.

Edit: Oh FFS, he had the affair after he was seperated from his wife.

You might be right about the democrats not putting up a good candidate, but that isn't the issue in deciding whether his behavior was wrong.

As Henry Kissinger pointed out, power is the ultimate sex attractent. John Ensign now joins a long list of powerful politians who can't keep his rocket in his pocket.

At least its not a same sex affair that invokes homosexuality, maybe we will not get a blow by blow discription like we got with Monica, but Ensign has done failed family values 101 and has lost the moral standing to live it down.

Its a long and bipartisan story, neither the democrats or the republicans have any right to call the kettle black on their records.

But at least another hypocrite got caught.

"There's too many people that paint with a broad brush that we're all corrupt, we're all amoral. ? And having these kinds of things happen, whether it's a Republican or Democratic senator ? we certainly have had plenty of Democratic scandals in the past ? we need people who are in office who will hold themselves to a little higher standard." NPR was saying this guy was planning on making a run in 2012.

Is that true?

I say NV just forfeit their senators. Ensign has now reached the joke level that is Reid. Just wipe the slate clean with them and elect some new ones. Unfortuantely the republicans in this state cannot field a decent candidate. They still have yet to put up one person to run against Reid this year - even though Reid has a horrible approval rating and could be beaten easily - not one decent moderate or conservative will step up to challenge him. Nevada is just one ^%@&$# up state.

I'm not sure. There was speculation that since he traveled to Iowa to speak earlier this month, that he was considering a Presidential bid. Apparently, going to Iowa is supposed to be some type of testing the waters of some sort.

Imagine a politician who ran on policies opposing racism only to find he was a closet racist insulting minorities with vicious racial slurs in private.

It makes the adultery a lot worse, a larger violation of the public trust, when they have run explicitly on moral issues they violate.

Ok, let us take this hypothetical question to it's natural conclusion. I presume that because you make a big deal of his voting record about racism, that his opponents voted to protect racist policies? Which would you vote for, and which would you want in office, the hypocritical politician who votes to promote your values, or the honest politician who votes against your values and really believes what he votes for?

Politics is not a buffet where we get to pick our perfect line up, we get a few choices and choose our least bad. Apparently his base wants him to vote according to their views more than they want him to live by them, and I am pretty sure you would make the same choice. IE, voting according to your values is more important in a politician than living by them. And yes, I realize both would be nice, but what we want and what we can get are not the same.

# Voted NO on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Apr 2007)
# Voted YES on notifying parents of minors who get out-of-state abortions. (Jul 2006)

This guy is a first class asshole and should be removed from representing anyone in this country.

What is it with all of the puritanical lefties latley? I don't see any legislation mentioned that Mr Ensign signed which would criminalize or ban adultery--therefore your rant is merely epic fail. Well done. Perhaps your kind should stick to burning witches.
Also it's rather refreshing to see a Republican Politician have an extramarital affair with a female and not an underage male. It's almost as if he was a Democrat.

Wow, and they say the anger and hatred comes from the right...:Q

What does this guy's voting record have anything to do with him having an affair? Did he vote on any legislation about adultery?

Wasn't he separated when the affair occurred? I mean, it still isn't right for either party involved in the adultery, but being separated means the spouses are apart to explore other options and see if they want to stay together.

You know that really isn't the point, I probably agreed with Elliot Spitzer on many things, but the idiot was at the forefront of Anti-Prostitution legislation, and guess what? The guy had a flock of high priced hookers 24/7.... So he had to go... If your retarded enough to stand up and say I am for XYZ, don't be a fucktard and do XYZ.

SHUX

So this guy can't have an affair because you don't like his politics/voting record?

If I like his voting I don't give a damn who he screws, that's his and his wife's problem. I'd much rather a politician be having an affair than riping off taxpayers and be involved in fraud etc. (like Easley looks to be guilty of)

BTW: Unlike interstate transportaion for prostitution (or whatever the legal term is), having an affair with a married co-worker isn't a federal felony. That's why Spitzer is out of office - he committed felonies while in office.

Otherwise, I never heard of the guy.

Fern

Or Jefferson.
