I dont think running two antivirus programs is a good idea either. Getting a second opinion using one of the online scanners should be enough. I trust Panda but I use the Symantec and Pccillian online scanner every other week to be safe.
I don't think it's a good idea to run two anti-virus apps at once. So many of them have resident auto-protect, the OS hooks are likely to fight each other for control and cause instability.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but Panda Platinum (includes a firewall) is availiable for IT professionals and for students, etc. here. It's a great value for free, and it works quite well. Updates daily, and as long as you still qualify the next year, you get free yearly subscriptions. Enjoy!

damnit and I just bought a 6 month subscribption of titanium haha....
It's not available for students, only IT Professionals though.

That's what I thought too, Spudd, but then I selected my honest category (student) and it went through. Everything works great. Enjoy!
Doh! I didn't realize the OP had the offer on his post already.

2. Don't open e-mail from people you don't know
My policy is as such: I never open attachments from family and friends that just send random crap. For "trusted" friends (none of my relatives are tech literate enough to get in my "trusted" list), I only open the attachment if they've already told me to expect it, and even then I tread carefully.Originally posted by: deadseasquirrel

while i agree this is good advice, i would also say to go a step further and not automatically trust emails from people you DO know. the way worms work these days is by affecting someone then using their address book to send itself further. people tend to trust attachments from family members and friends too much.

EICAR test is a joke. Any antivirus app can catch that... because it's meant to be a test and nothing more. A true test of an antivirus app is to throw it REAL world stuff and see if it can take it.
By the way, has anyone tried the new Panda Titanium 2004 v3.01.00 that came out recently? I'm having SERIOUS probs with it... it keeps disabling its auto protect and other weird crap. I'm not happy with it and will let tech support know tomorrow.

Really? It's worded to seem as though you had to be a tech guy IN an educational institution to get it. Did you just type in your school addy? Interesting.......
Might check it out, but didn't MDesigner confirm that Titanium actually has a better virus detection engine?

I don't get the joke then.
It's supposed to test if your antivirus is running. It obviously doesn't check for the detection of any viruses other than itself. It's not even mean to see if you have up to date defs.
If you want to send a real virus out to all the clients on your network to see if your antivirus is working go ahead though
Don't forget: Your job is only as secure as your last backup.

Let's see.. well, I run POPFile for anti-spam, which runs locally as a POP3 proxy. POPFile is always locking up when Panda is installed & running. WeatherWatcher was getting locked up too. Outlook 2003 sometimes hangs when checking e-mail. Sometimes I'm unable to log off (WinXP) or reboot. And when I do manage to reboot, often times there's a hung process called "Centinel VxD" which I think is part of Panda.
It's just a mess. Anyone else having issues with 3.01.00? It's almost as if it's checking network activity and trying to block it... I don't want a firewall app! I just want the damn thing to check for viruses.... argh
