What firewall? I run Titanium, that's the weird part.. it definitely screws with my network.

Found another prob: I use Spybot Search & Destroy for my anti-spyware app. I had it check for updates, and it just locked up on me. Now that Panda Titanium is uninstalled, Spybot S&D works just fine, no problems.

Panda is hosed. I got rid of it and am now running Bitdefender 7.2 Free Edition for now. Auto protect isn't too important, I just manually scan stuff I download to check it, no biggie.

I did get the CvD app hang once when I tried to shut down my system, but never again. Also I use Spybot and Spy Sweeper together for my anti-spyware programs and I haven't gotten any problems while running Panda with either of them.

Too bad it didn't work out nicely for you.

I also have SpyBot--I noticed that (and this is before Panda was installed) it would lockup if you tried to download from Euro download site.

I am running Spybot S&D & also Panda Titanium 2004 with no problems. Both run updates & scans fine. At what point did it lock up during the check for updates? Right after you clicked "check for updates" ? I am trying to duplicate your problem.

out of the 7 files norton 03 found 5 bad and deleted them, the other 2 it left alone. guess it's time to start looking for new AV. too bad my IT professional email address is no longer good (early retirement to become a full time dad earlier this year) or i'd grab panda titanium.

I'm using McAfee 7.1 here at work, and it didn't even let me d/l it. Unfortunately, I can't get past that to open it because while I have adminitstrator rights on my computer, I can't get those rights to my AV software. Crazy.

LMAO. That's exactly why you don't have admin rights to the AV software, because you would do something silly like that at work. Crazy is the right word....to describe your actions at work.

There's a good reason you're not allowed admin rights on the virus scanner.... That should be abundantly clear. :D
Though the fact that your admin trusts the network to McAfee doesn't speak well of him (them, her)

Edit:
drats, Ludacris beat me to it! :D

I say BAH to you and Luda. I'm in no danger of infecting my computer. Too many people have d/l'ed this software on this forum for it to be any danger.

Me and Arsbanned made our point and I'm not gonna sit here and argue over it. The fact that you have admin rights to your PC and you are using McAfee doesn't speak to well of your network admin either. Arsbanned hit the nail on the head.

tried the IT version of Panda listed here, and although it worked great I just can't justify using an antivirus that doesn't catch all the viruses in a test file. back to using the free Bitdefender 7.2. i scan everything I donwload manually, so the active virus scan feature would be nice but I can live without to save cash. thanks everyone here for your advice.

I tried out BitDefender 7.2 standard. Its got a great scanner but its a major resource hog. Way worse than norton. Going to try out Avast next.

Using whatever NAV version that comes with Norton Systemworks 2002: all seven found while unzipping file, some automatically deleted, the rest quarantined.

Only because it detected at least one virus, and disallowed access to the zip file. The question is, if you had disabled auto protect, unzipped the viruses to a folder, then reenabled autoprotect, would it have caught them all?

Well I downloaded Nod32 and gave it a try. It only snagged 4 out of the 7. I thought this odd because it gets the best reviews and passes all the virus tests. Anyone else able to get all 7 w/Nod?

AVG Free missed an email I received with the Netsky worm attached, even when I had it do a direct scan on the attachment. Fortunately, it was so obvious that it was an infected message that it was easy to catch without the AV. Grisoft does have a Netsky cleaner available on their site if you do get hit.
