I can't decide: the seasonic or an OCZ Modstream 520? what's everyones opinion on which is a better power supply? Quietness is a factor. Anyone know how long this deal is going to last?

If you plan on serious overclocking then probably the OCZ Powerstream (not the Modstream). If not planning on serious overclocking, Seasonic all the way.

OCZ Powerstream

Pros - adjustable rails, super stable/reliable (fluctuate less than 1%)

Cons - terrible energy efficiency, around 65% at load. Thus, a Powerstream 520w is wasting almost 200 watts

Seasonic S12

Pros - pretty much silent, stable/reliable, best energy efficieny of any psu's at 80% at load
Cons - non-adjustable rails, rails not as tight as OCZ Powerstream - fluctuate around 3%

The Antec Phantom 500 is more efficient than the Seasonic coming in at a record breaking 90% 🙂

I can't wait till mine comes in. I ordered one yesterday for $160 shipped 🙂

Yea anyone wanna buy my 520w Modstream? Lol, I just bought the P180 and I don't think that the cables are going to be long enough.

The cables on the Seasonic aren't going to be long enough either, they have short cables. Thats half the reason I decided to get a Antec Phantom 500... The cables are longer, and the fan only goes on at a certain temperature. Plus it has more efficiency of any power supply that I know of, even the Seasonic.

I just picked up the 500w @ Case-Mod.com for $115 shipped. I only found the sale price through Froogle. Do a search for Seasonic S12-500 and it will come up $109.95. When I clicked on the link it was $105. Reseller Ratings aren't bad and it's the new revision so I went for it. Hope this helps someone in the market.

Edit - here is a link S12-500w for $105 + shipping

Why not just get something like this?

Damn man thanks. Someone in the P180 thread was suggesting some cables that were like $12. This is much better.

I really really want this PSU tho, especially at this price. This is probably the best ATX PSU out there right now.

Only thing is that you'll also need to go somewhere else to also buy the 4pin power adapter extension and that's extra shipping costs.

I have the P180 and the Seasonic S12 500. The 24-pin power cable is a tight fit but not a huge problem. The problem will be the 4pin power due to where it's usually located on the motherboard and unless you're video card has an opening where you can run the cable under it, you'll need an extension. The $12 set includes both the 24pin and 4pin extensions.

So this PSU/case combo worked for you w/o extensions? I don't care about a tight fit, after all this case has no window.

Got the Seasonic S12-600 for $124 shipped. Damn you guys!

It'll replace my 480w Antec True. Maybe putting in the PSU will motivate me to put in my watercooling too.

No problem 🙂

Good luck with finding the other extensions, or buying a Seasonic if you decide to now 🙂

so 7 blade fan is old or new version psu???

BTW does anyone just sell the extension for the 4pin connector on the mobo or just the combo at pefromance pc

Sliamus and the SilentPC review mentioned the ADDA replaces the Yate Loon fan. From the review above, the ADDA is a seven blade fan. Just did some googling and ADDA is a ball bearing fan and the Yate Loon fan the older model comes with is 5 blade.

Here's hoping for seven blade!

thanks..I really want to get the 600w but my wife would go nuts..just bought the P180 case, 3 new fans, a GPS receiver for my X50v...

Hmmm....but use my work address

What she doesn't know can't hurt her right 😉 Do some midnight ninja swap

Then you can hock off you old PSU to make up for the lost money 😀

They have the S12-600 for $125 shipped + tax for CA residents now (search for "Seasonic S12" in pricewatch). That's a whole $1 more than the S12-500. I'm really, really tempted even though I have absolutely no need for the extra 100W 😛

I was amazed to just notice that too, having ordered the S12-600 for $124 shipped earlier this week. But I looked at that $121.54 a little more closely, and noticed one important thing missing: free shipping. I quickly ran a fictitious purchase through their shopping cart to see how much shipping would add, and the cheapest to my ZIP was $11.45--which would make the total $132.99. So I'm glad I jumped when I did.

Excuse me while I crap my pants!! Teh 600 watter just dropped to $106 shipped. I caved! 😀

Edit: Sales tax was $8.75 for me, total = $114.75. This is cheaper than what some stores are selling the 430w for. Score! 😀
