Was he taken back into Stone Temple Pilots? I have five or six of their albums but don't really follow them.

Chester B just left STP and Weiland made comments about a reunion (1-off or otherwise) just last month

Saw a couple of STP concerts during the Core and Purple days. I really miss their music. I wish he sorted things out. RIP Scott.

All previous posters MISSED the opportunity and the point of his death. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I am smellin' like the rose
that somebody gave me on
my birthday deathbed
I am smellin' like the rose
that somebody gave me
'cause I'm dead & bloated

BOOM. *mind blown* Can't believe you all missed that.

That said, I'm very sad to see him go, though I knew it was only a matter of time. Been a huge STP fan for a very long time now. They had a winning formula. The sound. The lyrics. The vibe to the songs.

Velvet Revolver's one CD was a notable attempt at copying/rebooting STP. Great CD. But Scott's addictions basically burned through another band. Poor Slash...if not for his endorsements with Gibson, Musicians Friend and a hundred other companies, he might only be a Millionaire.

Is that really dying young for a drug addict? If anything, he surpassed expectations.

If he's [still] using, no age is 'surprisingly young', however if he's not, years of addition can take such a toll on the heart and other organs, that 48 would certainly be no surprise at all either.

That's not to say no big deal or that this should be expected, because this still sucks, surprise or not. 🙁

This sucks. Purple was one of those albums that was right up there with In Utero back in the day. I still listen to it when I want to get pumped up on a bike or after some drinks.
Even his solo effort, 12 Bar Blues, was fantastic.

Playing the hell out of STP lately, and I'm stunned that I never heard 'Down', not even once, nor did I know of the album that it was off of - No. 4 (I never listen to radio). It is now my current favorite song. I think I about blew out my speakers playing that yesterday.

Eh, yeah Weiland was better than the new singer.

What a voice he had. First time it was ever performed live.
Yep. A lot of his lyrics are just drug-addled nonsense, but Weiland used his voice like an instrument. The new singer was aggressively meh, but apparently Weiland was quite difficult to coexist with. Personally I find STP to be a bit repetitive in most of their albums, but when they are on, they are really, really on. Had Weiland remained drug-free and not mentally ill/addict-paranoid, they could have been huge.

Great song. Try "Thank you" if you don't have it; it's kind of a greatest hits/looking back album and has some of the greatest songs in the genre.

Anybody tried their 2010 album? If so, is it another retrospective or new stuff, and if the latter, is it worth buying?

Also, here's a couple of poignant letters from his ex-wife and his ex-band that yield views into his troubled life.
