Would be really interesting to know the clear origin of the idea that the whistleblower had no first-hand knowledge whatsoever. I know Trump spoke to that effect.

It also shows that the idea first-hand knowledge is even necessary is bullshit, having been an error in how a form was made in conflict with the law. I hate that there are members of the media intentionally producing false narratives.

It was first reported on thefederalist as far as I am aware (I won't link it, they are far right, google it if you want). There was previously a requirement on the disclosure form that said firsthand knowledge was required, but the actual law (title VII) makes no mention of this . The form was changed to remove that requirement just before or just after (not clear) the person submitted their complaint, so all the loonies are screaming deepstate.

I have heard one report that the person used the old form.

Giuliani has lawyered up with Jon Sale, former assistant special prosecutor during Watergate.

gotta love it when lawyers have to get a lawyer.

So Dump is raging over not knowing the whistleblower's identity, after calling him a spy. Then Cadet Bonespurs waxes on about "how they were handled in the old days," asks people to discover the identity, and now his fellow snowflakes are wailing about being bullied by Congress?!

Every single day Team Treason gets more pathetic and ridiculous. I hate the damage they are inflicting to our democracy, but honestly watching all these jokers flush their credibility and self-respect down the crapper is a bit of a silver lining. I already thought evangelical republicans in gov who wear their christian faith on their sleeves were full of shit. Nice of them to confirm it, looking at you Pompeo.

Do they have a choice? B* out now over this and they look like giant pussy cats... On the other hand if they DO dispatch the sgt. at arms and it fizzles out and nothing of consequence happens ... wtf are they going to do when Trump declares the next election null and void? Who cares about the House by then?
This what Pelosi was worried about?

State Dept inspector general expected to give 'urgent' Ukraine briefing on Hill

https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/sta...ted-urgent-ukraine-briefing/story?id=65991911

The State Department’s inspector general is expected to brief staffers from several House and Senate committees on Wednesday afternoon about documents obtained from the department’s Office of the Legal Adviser concerning documents related to the State Department and Ukraine, sources familiar with the planned briefing told ABC News.

Details of the briefing, expected to be conducted by Steve Linick, the inspector general at State, remain unknown. Linick is expected to meet with congressional staff in a secure location on Capitol Hill.

The unusual nature and timing of the briefing – during a congressional recess – suggest it may be connected to a recent intelligence community whistleblower allegation which describes, in part, the State Department’s role in coordinating interactions between Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal attorney, and Ukrainian officials.

The State Department has faced criticism in recent weeks for connecting Giuliani to multiple Ukrainian officials about re-opening an investigation into for Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

The State Department's press office and the State Department's inspector general's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment -- nor did the committees expected to be part of the briefing.

I'm guessing this is not good news for the administration.

The time is getting nearer much quicker where those folks who don't want to go down with Trump will have to make that difficult choice of being faithful to a con man who only cares about himself or bailing out before the shit hits Trump square in the puss and anyone around him gets splattered just the same.

Pompeo and Barr are all in with no way out so those two stooges have no choice in the matter. As well, any of those other enablers of Trump are probably lawyering up and hunkering down waiting for the whistling incoming subpoenas/summons/warrants to come knocking down their doors.

If Dems don’t have a way to deal with this obstruction, and it is obstruction, then our democracy is dead as it is no longer functioning as intended.

The only remedy is "inherent contempt." Hasn't been used in 100 years because there's been no need for it. It's unclear what jail they would even house them in or who would go out to do the arrests.

The House Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police can detain if a person is found in inherent contempt and ordered held.

They've got a holding facility on D street or the person in question can be detained elsewhere under guard.

Good info. Didn't know they could use DC Metro for the arrests.

I say let's get started ASAP. They can start with Pompeo.

Couldn't they also get an emergency court order and get them arrested by the US Marshalls?

No matter what, after the fat ass is out if office we need a whole list of new laws.

US Marshals are DOJ employees. You need a solution that’s entirely separate from the executive as the executive branch has been corrupted.

I don't think they could use the DC Metro. The Capitol Police are a separate law enforcement branch, entirely controlled by Congress and distinct from the DC Metro Police

I believe there is a holding cell somewhere. My understanding is that the Sgt at Arms can enlist the DC police as part of the latter's charter in order to fulfill his duties as required, but certainty is hard to come by these days.

Oh, Baby! Volker, the resigned former envoy to Ukraine is also scheduled to testify shortly, along with the former ambassador.

Trumpworld is playing Hell trying to stay ahead of it with a massive disinformation campaign but they're on the ropes & getting pummeled badly.

I have no idea WTF Trump was thinking when he ordered the transcript released but I think it cooked him. He *will* be impeached. What happens after that depends on McConnell, one of the most treacherous swamp creatures of all.

Just read an article that says there is no holding cell designated for this purpose, but suggests they might be able to use the DC jail. This has been done before, last time 100 years ago. They must have had a way to do it then.

The real question in my mind is do Schiff and the dems have the cajones to actually do it.

I thought they in part worked under the direction of the courts, though.

It's odd. He'll always deny doing something wrong, but this time it seems like he was also deluded into thinking the evidence would exonerate him when it did just the opposite. Either that or the usual people preventing him from doing something phenomenally stupid (moreso than usual) weren't there to keep him at bay.

The kicker is that the desire to see Trump impeached has been shooting up. Still a minority at 47 percent, but when it shoots up 10 percent in a week, Republicans have to be feeling nervous. If it tips to a majority (I'm not expecting a solid majority), I wonder how Republicans and Trump will react...

Pompeo has now admitted to being on the Zelensky call after he lied to ABC about it. If I were a betting man a lot of info about what he's doing at State and that he's been lying to lots of people is soon to surface which is not likely to reflect well on him.
