i think what could put this over the edge is if it's true that Trump threatened US aid in order to get dirt on a political opponent. well, the current REpublican traitors will probably excuse that too so what am I thinking

Maybe it will sway more than the 100k votes needed to win the electoral college. Trump barely won last time around.

OK, here's another good kick in the ass. Apparently, the whistleblower statute permits the whisteblower himself to take his complaint directly to Congress, but only if his complaint was deemed not credible by the IC IG! This is because the drafters of the statute never anticipated that a DNI would refuse to hand over a complaint deemed credible by the IC IG. So paradoxically, he may now not be able to present the complaint directly and still be protected by the whistleblower statute because his complaint was deemed credible.

After Trump is out, we have a lot of fixing to do in our system. Especially the parts having to do with the accountability of our elected and appointed officials. I'm tried of the game being rigged in their favor.
You think Mitch will allow any of this to be fixed?

He is the true public enemy number one here, he is who has completely broken the normal function of government and made Trump untouchable.

And didn't Mitch sue Obama over non-confirmed cabinet members and now every one in the Trump Admin is "acting."

I see that some people out in the world are already claiming that this is another brilliant distraction being worked by Trump.

When somebody explains the political value in being at the center of a corrupt foreign policy scandal to hurt one's political enemies with state resources without sounding like a loon I'll listen.

That reasoning is so dumb for so many reasons. They always say it's as an attempt to distract us from his policy agenda and how terrible it is but Trump has no policy agenda. He doesn't give a shit about anything the government is doing outside of having his base like him and sticking it to Obama and for those things he WANTS people to see him doing it.

Also, if he real goal was to distract people there are probably about 100 better ways to do it other than implicating himself or his associates in potentially criminal activity. He could just stir back up the race war he loves so much or whatever. It never ceases to amaze me how so many people think he's some sort of political genius despite every person who actually has worked closely with him saying he's dumb.

All the while his polling is uniformly dogshit for an incumbent. Overall approval is stuck, head to heads have him struggling to break 40% if at all, and almost supermajority dislike of what policies his admin are pursuing. If the key to beating Clinton in 16 was her unlikability he's generating that in spades for himself in a fraction of the time.

Sorry guys it's pretty bad. I heard the President told Medvedev that "he would have more flexibility after the election" Obviously wanting to make a deal that wouldn't stand up to pre-election scrutiny. This IS a game changer.

So if a newspaper corrects an improperly reported story, they are forever wrong about everything?

It seems you are whole-hog distrusting anything, because they engage in actual journalistic ethics.

This isn't how it works, but it is clear that you have been thoroughly gaslit into believing that news isn't news, facts aren't facts, and you should only ever believe information that sounds close enough to what you already believe, regardless of logic.

The feelz got him where he is today, not his higher mental faculties. Fuck you, Libtard.

Was he extorting the Russians to dig up dirt on one of Romney's kids?

And what is plan B if Russia successfully hacks enough polling stations and machines to eek out a win for Trump despite polls saying he will lose in a landslide?

Trump Repeatedly Pressed Ukraine President to Investigate Biden’s Son

https://www.wsj.com/articles/trump-defends-conversation-with-ukraine-leader-11568993176

President Trump in a July phone call repeatedly pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden ’s son, urging Volodymyr Zelensky about eight times to work with Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer, on a probe, according to people familiar with the matter.

“He told him that he should work with [Mr. Giuliani] on Biden, and that people in Washington wanted to know” whether allegations were true or not, one of the people said. Mr. Trump didn’t mention a provision of foreign aid to Ukraine on the call, said this person, who didn’t believe Mr. Trump offered the Ukrainian president any quid-pro-quo for his cooperation on an investigation.

Mr. Giuliani in June and August met with top Ukrainian officials about the prospect of an investigation, he said in an interview. The Trump lawyer has suggested Mr. Biden as vice president worked to shield from investigation a Ukrainian gas company with ties to his son, Hunter Biden. A Ukrainian official earlier this year said he had no evidence of wrongdoing by Mr. Biden or his son.

After the July call between the two presidents, the Ukrainian government said Mr. Trump had congratulated the new president on his election and expressed hope that his government would push ahead with investigations and corruption probes that had stymied relations between the two countries.

Mr. Trump on Friday defended his July call with Mr. Zelensky as “totally appropriate” but declined to say whether he had asked the Ukrainian leader to investigate Mr. Biden, a former U.S. vice president. “It doesn’t matter what I discussed,” he said

So strange how the held up aid for Ukraine was recently released...

They'll just troll and hack more. Actual penetrations that result in vote changing could have some extremely nasty repercussions if it doesn't work.

Interesting question but I think that would be close to impossible. I don’t believe any States voting machines get connected to the internet
However that isn’t to say some malicious code gets in the machine from some sort of update or voter registries get hacked and suddenly 1/3rd the voters are tagged as unregistered.
No idea what happens. I’d guess the EC would have to decide, not that I think the EC is prepared or capable of making a decision at least per the previous SC ruling EC voters can vote however they choose without consequences.

I think you are underestimating how likely this is. If vote totals are hacked it will likely take a while to find out that it happened, some states might not be able to figure it out at all, and you can be sure that Trump will move aggressively to block any investigations into it if he does win. That gives him plenty of time to declare that he was the victor, that people investigating it are partisan sore losers, and that even if it happened it wasn't enough to sway the election anyway.

That sort of mixed result along with Trump's obvious unwillingness to give up power so that he doesn't go to jail would cause absolute chaos. If it turns out we find that the Russians did it if Trump is still president he's not going to do anything and Republicans will declare it all fake news anyway. This election is going to be super dangerous for our country.
