What Pelosi’s strategy here is? I can’t figure out what she’s doing. Or not doing. She's either over analyzing the situation. She's compromised (to which I don't believe is the case) or she's hamstrung. From what I understand, she still doesn't have the votes among her Democratic caucus to vote to initiate an impeachment investigation. Until she persuades the balky House Dems to go along, her hands are tied.
Although Pelosi told NPR that we should pass legislation explicitly permitting the indictment of a sitting President: https://www.cnn.com/2019/09/20/polit...ion/index.html
Trump is Br'er Rabbit-ing the House into impeaching him so that A) if there's enough time for the Senate to acquit, he claims "TOTAL EXONERATION" before the 2020 election, and B) even if there isn't enough time for a Senate vote, he can put his "poor little put-upon President" schtick on an endless loop, whining about how The Big Meanie Democrats keep picking on him, "PRESIDENTIAL HARASSMENT, SO UNFAIR! SAD!". Don't let him goad her into letting the Senate issue him a free pass.
It's possible she figures an impeachment hearing will have a more favorable effect on the outcome of the elections if they hold it next summer.I disagree. If there are legitimate grounds for impeachment (and obviously there are) the House should have been moving forward on them not delaying them until a time when they'll produce better ratings. I think that's going to backfire on the Democrats because it will make it easier for the Republicans to claim this is just partisan politics.
