Ahhh, I see that you're stuck on stupid. I have a phone with an OLED screen and I love it. When I see one of the high end Samsung AMOLED screens it looks like piss or sewer water. As others have mentioned here, OLED is the future and it's getting a bad rep because of the crap Samsung is putting out. If you don't like what I'm saying put me on ignore but you will never convince me to stop giving my opinion so either take it or ignore it.

If current Samsung OLED's really look like piss or sewer water, then the phones would not have sold nearly as much as they have.

You are coming across like you're on some kind of crusade against the "oled defenders".
The hue of the settings menu does not matter. I was simply bringing up where you'd see the performance of white in addition to a website. I don't know how to state it any other way. I want bright and vibrant white on my smartphone screen. The IPS panels provide that. OLED does not. If you don't agree or care, so be it. End of story.
So you've spent some time using an S4 then? As you seem pretty definite about that S4 screen.
I've said countless times on this forum that if you or anyone likes OLED, so be it. You are now putting words into my mouth that I never said. Thanks.
You've also called them "oled defenders" rather than understanding that different people like different things. Your preferences are not superior to theirs.
Actually I don't. I stated an opinion based on experience. You seem like someone incredibly sensitive to OLED criticism.

Yes indeed I have used the S4. Which I've already stated prior.

What I said was that OLED fans/defenders feel the need to essentially bash people who prefer LCD's. Instead of conceding the strengths of LCD's they'll instead boast of deeper blacks and trash LCD's. From the very start I said OLED's produce stronger blacks. It's just that they are weaker in pretty much every other category.

Marketing (12 billion dollars last year) certainly helped that.

I never said piss or sewer water.

And LCD fans are quick to bash OLED's white levels. There is no difference between both groups, both are just as guilty.

It's all a waste of time really. People should just use what they prefer. I shouldn't even discuss it on forums anymore. You get people like WelshBloke and grkM3 attacking me for no reason.

Haha. Does a machine look at your screen for you and tells you how good it looks?

They test them the same way professionals calibrate TVs I've had both my vt30 and vt50 plasma calibrated and they use a sensor and put it on the screen to read the whites and there test patterns

Sure you tried. You gave suggestions. But I think you could use a bit more tact. Also, I'm not an emotional person so I don't get visibly upset over something (like this). I'm glad you find me amusing.

Back on topic, did you watch that part of the video? Do you have any opinion on it?

I saw the part in the video, and IMO, they sound to me like you would sound in person. Just whiny about samsung and no real factual data. Just personal hatred. Those 2 guys actually sickened me. Its a fucking multimedia device. Samsung is not destroying shit. Those 2 guys come across as iphone lovers who actually love the S4 but have to put it down because they are loyal nutjobs to something else.

So if you can point out where I've trashed LCDs or indeed bashed you I'd be grateful.

Really? Could you point out this "attack"? Lucky noone called you an "LCD defender" or a "dork" or anything.

See I'm not attacking you as I can back up my white balance with trusted review sites.I think you can't tell the difference between white balance and white brightness and you won't find anyone here telling you the gs4 is brighter then an IPS screen(there getting there)with the gs4 hitting 475 CD vs 522 on the iPhone 5.

But the fact still remains that pure white has been tested to be whiter on the gs4

You push your opinions on here as facts but review sites that use sensors and controlled testing put the gs4 at a purer white and even call me a dork for proving you wrong with data that is backed up vs you and your stories about showing phones to people

I never said you trashed LCD's. I was speaking of people in general. Which was quite clear.

I would say that your behavior towards me is a personal attack. You seem very focused on coming after everything I say. Which is fine, because I can back everything I'm writing. I'm not an LCD defender. All I really said was I prefer the technology. You seem very focused on coming after me for that. I called grkM3 a dork because he's acting like one towards me. And you're borderline psycho right now. Get a life man. Move on.

You can't back up anything. You are simply insisting that DisplayMate is the word of God and what I witness is person is BS.

Go see the difference for yourself. If you don't believe me, I can't stress enough how much I don't care. But please, keep bringing up DisplayMate.

My opinions aren't facts. I can only go by real world experiences. What I see with my eyes. You are a huge dork. The fact that you keep saying the same thing to me shows how much so.

There is 3 trusted review sites that put the gs4 having a better white and used display mate since they are by far the most unbiased site and will also call out the weakness of the gs4 screen.all the do on that site is test screens

You can call me little names till your as blue as the iPhone IPS screen all you want but until you can post hard data showing the iPhone 5 having better whites your opinion is just that

I'm a huge dork for calling you out for being color blind or better yet can't tell the difference between darker or brighter white

Ahhh, so you're on a crusade against "them" the "people in general".

Fair enough.

I take it you're on medication for this?

I'd say that I'm getting closer to attack territory but only because you seem unable to politely debate.

I'm fine with personal preferences, everybodies is different and its great that we have devices to suit everyone. Whats not cool is to basically say that your preference is superior and then start crying when people disagree with you.

If you don't want people to disagree with you don't put your opinions on a discussion board.

See you can't just say "look at them side by side"

I have seen some AMAZING OLED's (Sony's 4k OLED TV is AMAZING).

I have also seen some bad OLED's (GSII)

I have also seen my fair share of good and bad LCD's.

In reality, its really down to the tuning and processing of the panel. Most TV's are made with the same panels, but each brand has different quality and looks, thats because of processing and tuning.

TVs and smartphone screens are used in two very different manners and hence the performance of white in both scenarios produces different results. No one stands 6" away from their TV screen to watch it.

Yes there are bad LCD's. Never said there wasn't.

It doesn't matter what the use of the screen is. Most phone screens are made by the same manufacture or even use the same panel.

Actually, I rarely express myself in person unless asked. I always wait for someone else to say their opinion because I like to seek out differing opinions. I'm not comfortable with established thoughts, whether it's for or against what I'm saying. So, no, I wouldn't act like those in the video. What I would do is ask them why they said this and that. The title of this thread is my assessment of how Samsung's OLEDs are perceived. People say they're "vibrant" when they really mean that they're oversaturated. That can go both ways. For me, the screens have awful tints so I find it fascinating that others disagree with me. That is what I enjoy, the argument. Prove me right and the conversation ends. Prove me wrong and the conversation ends. But if you fail at either then it will continue. As of now I am not convinced that their OLED screens are good at all. But I'd love to be proven wrong. This isn't about "hate" or anything like that. It's all about the argument. Name calling doesn't help. Just make a convincing argument and I may be sold. However, to this day, no one has been able to convince me why having massive tints on their screens is a good thing...

The problem being is, we can never define what makes a good screen. Some will say natural colors, some will say whiter whites or darker blacks, some will say PPI, other will say vibrant tones.

These "tints" you talk about are a lot less pronounced in modern OLED's. Older Samsung OLED's had this problem, but its nearly gone with the Note 2 and GS4. One of my favorite OLED screens is the Playstation Vita's, which may back up the idea that Sony makes a better panel.

OLED is still young, and is a solid performer. Honestly speaking, I don't notice tints too much, and I prefer the colors of OLED over LCD, also black levels are much deeper. I wouldn't use it for accurate color representation, as things are a bit saturated. But why does it matter? Its a phone. I will continue to consume media on my phone with its pleasingly vibrant colors, and continue to edit photos on my $700 IPS monitor when color matters.
