Well the UK builds its own warheads, but they still rely on US Technology and the Trident Missile itself to deliver these warheads on target. They get many crucial missile components also.

US - UK Mutual Defence Agreement.

We don't have launch authority over their systems though so kinda irrelevant where the missile is made. If the US cut off Trident support they'd still be functional for a long time, certainly long enough for the UK to deploy alternate delivery means. They're no stranger to cruise missiles and gravity bombs.

You're being intentionally dense.

They can release more than enough right this minute than would be necessary to trigger a global catastrophe. Which, in the context of the discussion, is really all that matters.

I can see Donets losing his mind, just sweating his ass off during that. Perpetual 'can we fucking go now?' face.

Putin is still trying to have Zelenskyy killed. Seems like every 4-8 months SBU foils some kind of plot. One whiff of Z's presence there and orcs would have just sent everything. Mortars, drones, rockets, artillery, Iskanders, the lot.

It would seem that props to Zelenskyy's security services for keeping his whereabouts a mystery are in order.

The thing about fighting a democracy is that if you kill the head of state it doesn't win you the war. Killing Zelensky would probably stiffen Ukrainian resolve if anything. Knocking off a dictator on the other hand...

So on the one hand it is good that these 123 people were freed:

On the other hand i suspect Belarus will now become a major exporter to Russia as they will be able to import those things Russia has a little more resistant.

Just pointing out that the delivery systems are leased....

Yup, dictatorships never do succession well. Cults of personality aren't very transferable either (sorry Vance).

I agree, it would make Ukraine more determined. In this case though Putin wants Zelenskyy gone over the sheer embarrassment of this debacle. He wants a shot at someone more pliable, preferably a crook with kompromat attached. Zelenskyy is just too shrewd, has principles, and isn't interested in being a vassal for money. Since their initial attempt to kill him in the early hours of the invasion back in 22 to today, we're probably in the double digits for number of attempts so far. Last one I remember hearing about in detail was the plot the SBU foiled last May, with the two colonels. Think they were going after Budanov too. I'm sure there have been more since.

American assistance in this effort remains one of my nightmare scenarios, something I wouldn't put past a piece of shit like Trump.

Putin is laughing at Trump. Trump is so desperate for peace (and a prize) but Putin has zero interest... as can be seen by his latest demands...
Ah, a glimmer into the truth of the matter.
Russia demands Europe. As in the whole f'ing continent.
This war will not end until Russia is defeated, or Europeans lay dead. The world must choose one.

You put rabid dogs down. We cant have this mud terrorizing our back yard. Our demand is that Russia demilitarizes and dismantles all it's nukes. Or get put down.

Typically you want to work around their 'we launch if our government is about to die' position.

You can put dogs in cages too.

'Fuck off back to Russia or we toss your asses out of Europe by force, then establish a 100km deep buffer zone on your side the border. Baltic and Black Sea fleets will be assigned to artificial reef duty.'

Looks like some movement on the Ukrainian side...
I suspect Zelensky knows how strongly Putin wants to keep the war going, so showing strength on the battlefield, ie pushing the Russians out of Kupyansk and then showing flexibility at the diplomacy table should drive a wedge between Trump and Putin.

Putin will still say no, so I doubt that Zelensky is worried about having an election or missing out on NATO membership.

Pretty sure Putin wants elections in Ukraine just to get rid of Zelenskyy and install a Putin puppet in his place. Of course, Trump being a Putin puppet himself has a stiffie for pushing elections in Ukraine during wartime because Putin wants him to and he also has a score to settle with Zelenskyy because Zelenskyy refused to play that quid pro quo game with him so many years ago.

I hope that EU/UK take wording like "last chance" seriously. My response in their position would be, "no, this is your last chance, fuck off out of Ukraine or we're all getting involved", but then I'm a confrontational little ah heck by default :)
