I love your backtrack asshole.
Backtrack on what? I already said I got the prediction wrong. But it was a reasonable prediction that only an idiot would invade the Ukraine, a hostile country of 40M with under 200K troops. What I didn't account for was that Putin was just such an idiot. Unlike emos like you, I am not attached to this prediction and have no problem admitting it was wrong.

Dont believe the hype and numbers provided by Russia and China. Their weapons never deliver when required in the battle ground

You did just see the news about the S-400 claiming the life of the Lt. Col who came out of retirement to fight, right? Can guarantee you he hasn't been the only one. S-400 is considered to be the most dangerous AA system on the planet. Do you think the Ukrainians let that convoy get to Kyiv because they're up for a challenge? I wonder how many of the Bayraktars they've lost.

I think you're projecting about hype as you're presenting it to me instead of cogent rebuttals. At the very least you are transferring your disdain for Russian tanks (something I kinda share honestly) to the rest of their motley inventory. Crow about the ineffectiveness of Russian weapons to the Ukrainians missing family members why don't you?

I have a very chastened, somber awakening concerning all this after reading the first and much of the second of these two Wikipedia pages yesterday. I strongly recommend reading them. Putin isn't going crazy so much as acting out the prognostications and determinations of Aleksandr Dugin, who appears to be the architect of the Russian geopolitical attitude that's in play here. Yes, Putin's a soulless autocrat, but Dugin appears to be the guy behind the current Russian obsession to annex Ukraine, and that's just a small part of his vision for a Euroasian future. This stuff is embraced in the Kremlin. I'm afraid that Putin's just as capable of unimaginable atrocities as Stalin, possibly worse.

At this point you have to wonder how deeply imbedded these doctrines are within the military leadership. If human self preservation means anything to them with a cornered and weak Russia.

Those with the keys to Armageddon following this guys philosophy is a scary thought.

You can bet he's packing now all the time too. No way a guy who knows how to shoot wouldn't arm himself at probably the most tense time in his life, when the possibility of assassination isn't exactly remote. Any potential hero for the world will have to take into account that it's not just bodyguards they'd have to worry about.

Fingers crossed for a group of generals stepping up, saving Russia and the world from a loser who might be gone in a few years anyway. Or an oligarch pissed over losing 80% of his wealth, that works too.
You have been sucking putin's dick for the majority of this thread. Now you are trying to capitulate after a hundred pages of this topic? Go fuck yourself you goddamn traitor of the civilized world!

Don't worry, Americans are against any sanctions if it raises gas prices at all. Who cares about dead kids when I need to fill up my F150.

That is not true. Everyone I know is all for all the sanctions. Stop buying Anything from Russia.

The current administration in DC has their head up their ass. They should stop all purchases from Russia.

If those guys were really sent out there starving, on a first live-round exercise during Basic Training...that also happened to be an actual invasion of a sovereign country...wouldn't you fucking retreat? Wouldn't you also now be confused that those calls were just part of "the game" that the officers are playing on you?

You might be interested in reading about some of the tactics used by the Soviet armies in World War II. Here's a short description:

Order No. 227: Stalinist Methods and Victory on the Eastern Front

Especially interesting are the penal battalions and blocking detachments.

Russia has a history of winning wars by attrition and so did not shy away from tactics that leveraged their advantage in manpower regardless of the losses suffered in their own ranks. Putin seems to me to be enough of an "old school" Russian leader to continue these kinds of barbaric approaches. But I hope I am wrong...

But many countries in the EU are. This is the dilemma. This supply needs to come from someone else. Not sure the US could help, but we recently went from a net exporter to a net importer.

And this needs to be reversed ASAP.

Its not in service yet.

Zircons went into service in 2017. Same for Kinzhal I think. Both are hyper-sonic. Currently the only thing we have to swat at them is a version of THAAD, and it's far from perfect.

That was a time limited measure. Not to defend it in the least, but it wasn't typical of the Soviet army in WW2 either.

Russia contributes to the world oil market and that controls prices.
About the only thing I learned about the war from watching an hour of NBC news last night was IIRC the last thing said. A network commentator comes on and in about 8 seconds explains that in spite of all the sanctions Russia still has hundreds of millions of dollars coming in daily via its oil exports.

I am very flattered, but not my cup of tea. Not that there's anything wrong with it. You do you.

So will the world take this lesson to heart with regards to China's intentions towards Tiawan? We rely a lot on Chinese exports. Sanctions against them if they were to attack Tiawan would be a lot more difficult to live with.
I am not informed but have had the feeling (hey, it's been many decades) that the Chinese don't have to hardon to take over Taiwan that Putin's Russia has to get Ukraine back into its fold.

Some how you found a way to say criticize the Biden administration despite the previous administration drinking Putin's kool-aid and asked for seconds. I am not even talking about back then, I am talking about now. Trump still sucking Putin's dick, while his former advisor is saying we should let Putin invade Ukraine and take whatever he wants on Fox News. Ukraine said to go fuck yourself.

Really hoping super cheap Russian oil doesn't cause China to mothball their renewable push.

I had just listened to the 538 pod cast that had polling data. Support for sanctions massively dropped if it would increase gas prices.

Not sure that we routinely buy much for Russia, but I'm guessing the little we did is basically done with now.

Yeah, if this is true Anonymous is just a code word for NSA. I mean they are best know for hacking websites with default passwords and putting up a dick pic for an hour before someone regains control.

ETA: I don't think it is true at all. Also, probably a horribly dangerous thing to do as Russia wouldn't know if we were launching a first strike and might consider it a precursor to a first strike.

I've heard that question many times today. Hard to criticize a people putting up such a fight. Hopefully it's a strategic decision. At a minimum they had enough weapons to destroy the road into Kyiv
Saw it said (probably here) that the convoy likely has air cover. I sure don't know the ins and outs and my knowledge of military hardware isn't squat. Saw it said that drones could do in the convoy, supplied by Turkey. Whatever's at play, that convoy isn't doing well.
