divorced twice. married 3 times. and so what? do we pick CEOs based on how many wives they've had? as long as he didn't kill them, i'm ok with that. who can make the country better is the question. not him is the answer, but not because after 2 decade plus long marriages things didn't work out.
I'm sure that would play into picking a CEO, but that's not comporable anyway. A bad CEO can be fired/bought out. A bad president does what we've seen in the last seven years.

I do think it's relevant. If a person has had multiple marriages, it says something about their ability to create and maintain relationships or foretell the future or commit through difficulties, etc.

A bit moot now anyway, he was garbage for pres and is gone. Huckabee is probably as bad but he's not a contendor anyway.

poor fascist douchebag... wasted all that time and money spouting hatred and closed-mindedness in florida all for naught.

Sadly the candidate I'm kinda liking the most looks like he might drop out soon, Edwards.

And he just did.

Can't compare the two.

Rudy was in to win and when he saw he couldn't win he got out.

Paul has never been about winning but about getting his message out, thus he is still in it at 3% of the vote.

And you wonder why the Republican party is going down the drain?
The party started going down the drain when Rove started using wedge politics in 2000. Rove and Bush have proven they could care less about the GOP. They used the GOP for their own wants.
It is interesting in how Bush and Clinton both won two terms while getting their parties kicked out of congress at the same time.

And they both did it the same way, but running to the middle and passing things the other party liked or wanted.

I think he played too much on the fear and terror card. And God knows we've already had 7 years of that crap.
Amen. Add to that he is very unpopular in his home city - and don;t forget he wanted to extend his term as Mayor by postponing Mayoral elections - claiming no one but he could do the job!! Such an A-hole!
Can you provide proof of that statement?

I seem to remember people talking about him staying on past December and him declining to do so.

he did postpone the elections, from what I can remember -- or maybe it was just the primaries? something related to the mayoral election got postponed.

but I think he had pretty decent justification... Sept. 13th was probably a bad day for a new mayor's first day on the job and it's not like he tried to run for a third term.

You do realize marriage is between two people?

Who are you to blame all three divorces 100% on him???

Should the mods put God on the end of your SoundTheSurrender name?

What I find most interesting is that Rudy was best positioned to win the nomination. I really believe he could have done it had he played his cards right. Thank goodness he screwed everything up early on however by fearing a middle of the road finish in NH & Iowa and wasting all his time and money in Florida. What a terrible decision.

I'm hearing he actually put a loy of money into the early primaries, but pulled out after not getting anywhere in the polls.

Rudy is good in debates, as one might expect from his background (prosecutor/litigator etc).

I'm hearing he sucks as a campaigner. Doesn't give a good stump speech and doesn't care for the grip-n-grin stuff.

The nation's attention turning away from terrorism and towards the economy sure didn't help him either.

He was only leading in the early polls because of "name recognition" and goodwill from 911. Clearly, that's enough for a decent start, but there needs to be much much more. And he just didn't have it.

he's got a point, though.

you don't want someone who's been married multiple times as your leader for the following reasons:
- obviously, they have a trend of making big mistakes
- marital problems are more likely, which could negatively affect someone in office
- they don't stick to their vows
- they don't try hard enough to find alternative solutions to the problem... they'd rather end it and start new

Nah, Rudy quit when the going got tough, which is why no one has taken him seriously in months. Well, except maybe you.

Rudy was unquestionably the most RINO, out-of-touch-with-the-base candidate the GOP has had.

Pro-choice, Pro-gay marriage, Sanctuary Cities & Amnesty...Unbelievable he was able to ride it as long as he did.

This is the same thing people said about Bill Clinton but for some reason it didn't matter with him...

Here's a couple of links. I'm sure I could find more if I spent time to search archives.

Another thing I remember is that his followers were trying to spread the impression that NYC would grind to a halt without him and wanted him to stay on as 'Mayor for life'. Well a funny thing happened. Giuliani did not get to stay on after dec 2001 and NYC got a better and more liked mayor. The thing to remember is, had 9/11 not happened, Giuliani would have left office as one of the least popular Mayors of NYC.

Excerpt (article dated: Monday, Oct. 08, 2001)
"So let's forgive Rudy Giuliani for thinking he should be Mayor for Life. But let's also think twice before crowning him. By last Monday, Giuliani had made up his mind that the city couldn't get by without him. He decided to persuade the state legislature to overturn term limits, and to seek a third term on the Conservative Party ballot. Friends, especially his companion Judith Nathan, had convinced him that voters were so grateful they wouldn't mind messing with the electoral laws. But just before his press conference that day, other voices intruded. His friend John McCain warned that the effort to change the rules would diminish Giuliani, make him just another politician. It would revive memories, McCain predicted, of all those "past mistakes, earned and unearned."

http://www.nydailynews.com/arc...n_t_get_term_exte.html
Excerpt (article dated: Monday, Oct. 08, 2001)
"Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver slammed the door shut yesterday on Mayor Giuliani's request for a 90-day extension of his term, saying the mayor's gambit was finished.

"I've heard from enough of my members to know the Rudy extension won't happen," Silver (D-Manhattan) said in a telephone interview. "It's finished."

The decision means that, barring unforeseen events, Giuliani's term will expire Dec. 31 and a new mayor will succeed him New Year's Day. There was no immediate reaction from Giuliani's office.

Silver said the term extension was opposed by about 85% of the 99 Democrats in the 150-member Assembly.

As Giuliani won nearly universal praise for his handling of the aftermath of the World Trade Center terrorist attack, the mayor - fueled by significant public support - began to entertain thoughts of extending his term.

Two of the three major mayoral candidates, Democrat Mark Green and Republican Michael Bloomberg, supported a 90-day term extension. Democrat Fernando Ferrer opposed it - temporarily putting the plan to rest.

There had been some question whether the plan could be resurrected if Ferrer lost Thursday's runoff to Green, but Silver said yesterday that the runoff is immaterial.

He also said he is convinced there can be a smooth transition, even against the backdrop of the recovery efforts and the economic turmoil precipitated by the Sept. 11 attacks. Giuliani, he said, "should be talking to the remaining candidates and briefing them on a regular basis."

The mayor had outlined his rationale for an extension in a Sept. 28 phone conversation with Silver, but the two have not spoken since then, Silver said.

Last week, the two-term mayor announced he would not mount a bid for a third term by seeking an end to term limits and running on the Conservative Party line. He said he still wanted the extension but had stopped actively pursuing it."

NYC mayoral terms ends on December 31. Giuliani officially left office at midnight on 12/31/01. If I remember correctly 9/11/2001 was the day people were supposed to cast votes for the mayoral election. Obviously that did not happen and voting was postponed to sometime in November. It was sometime around end Sept/early October that Giuliani started his push for an extension of his term.

he's a sex addict... that's definitely different than someone who gets divorced multiple times. he stayed married. being unfaithful and still married doesn't make you a bad leader... it makes you a great politician.

Couldn't care less!! Couldn't!! Like Chewbacca on Endor, "could care less" makes no sense!

Could care less is an american idiom. It is also accepted by the Oxford English Dictionary as the American equivalent of the British could not care less. Im sorry to tell you but the majority of Americans, sans uptight english majors and grammer nazi's, say could care less, and have since the 1960s
