To win the nomination as a Republican, you have to apeal to the "Only Our God is right", "Profit Uber Alles", "Guns, Guns, Guns", and "Government is evil unless it benefits me" groups which composed the base.

Rudy Giuliani did not link up too well with these groups.

Actually, I think Rudy is quite popular in the Republican Party

And you wonder why the Republican party is going down the drain?

The party started going down the drain when Rove started using wedge politics in 2000. Rove and Bush have proven they could care less about the GOP. They used the GOP for their own wants.

Couldn't care less!! Couldn't!! Like Chewbacca on Endor, "could care less" makes no sense!

He was the only guy I felt would have been as bad or worse than Bush. I'm glad he's finally been put to sleep. I wish it had happened earlier, but it doesn't matter. The important thing is that greasy car salesman is gone. He was an absolutely egregious candidate.

But I thought he is America's Mayor?

He may have been, but He is not going to be America's President.

Go figure, People dislike Nazi like Ideas for America.....

Rudy's popularity declined in a direct ratio to the number of words he spoke. He presented himself as a legend in his own mind. It's as though every time he spoke, you could see more more pixels forming on his chest. After a while, we could see it was a big red "S".

Giuliani was always a 23.999 carat phony in my mind. The remaining republican phony is Romney.

I would have to guess that the remaining Giuliani type voters will now like McCain best as the paranoia wing of the Republican party reaches for a war hawk.

But on to super Tuesday, where no candidate can concentrate on just one State. And Giuliani's one lone delegate is cast adrift into a sea of confusion.

But still one candidate must win 50.001% of the delegates to lock up the nomination, and on the republican side, the top two candidates split 67% between them. And McCain did not beat 1/3 by much and fell well short of two in every five. And until one candidate can start consistently topping 50%, its hard to see a real winner. But winner take all is hardly small.

Be honest; who here 6 months ago would have bet their life that Paul would drop out before Rudy? And yet Paul haters will still denigrate this guy.

Eh. As much as I never gave Paul a shot to win (and still don't), I never really expected him to drop out, either. I figured they'd both be in till the end...

It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy - I say screw 'im. No doubt he will be an AG candidate if McCain wins in November - he would, IMO, be a poor choice and hopefully that won't happen.

Good! America is just a little safer today.
Agreed. It's one of the best things he's ever done for the country.

Oh, and, "9-11!!!!"

It will be interesting to see what happens to Rudy. He was making a small fortune giving speeches all over the country with the main theme being how tough he was on terror. And when named to the 911 commission, he did not bother to attend because he was too busy making speeches. His other lucrative sideline was various security companies selling security services to foreign countries.

Its some what understandable that all those incoming dollars could inflate his ego into thinking he was Presidential timber, but when actual voter support didn't amount to a sliver of Presidential timber large enough to make a toothpick, it has to be ego shattering as he bet the whole Presidential run on Florida.

Now that Rudy has dropped out and will not become President, the real question is what will happen to his speech income and security services companies? Who will now pay to listen to his inspirational speeches and what foreign countries will pay for his security expertise now that he has suddenly become irrelevant? As substance meets image and implodes. And what will Pat Robertson tell God is the other question.

A year or so ago Rudy was the guy who was going to win it ALL.
Not just the primary, but he beat every Democrats in national polls as well.

And then he realized he was not going to do good in Iowa so he left the state, then he left NH for the same reason and then SC and by time we get to Florida McCain and Romney were getting all the attention and everyone just sort of forgot about Rudy.

I really have to question the viability of any future run he might make, based on this enormous strategic gaffe. It seems like a fairly obviously stupid strategy, and one wonders whether this vanity and pigheadedness would extend to matters of Presidential significance if he were elected.

Thank you so much for correcting this. When I saw it my eyes started bleeding. I actually got to the end of the third page in this lame thread and this was all I could STILL think about. Just had to say thank you.

Wait, why does Chewie on Endor make no sense? He was just visiting.

As much as I dislike McCain ... If I were given a choice between Guiliani, Huckabee, and McCain and no one else, I would actually vote McCain. If given a choice between Huckabee, Guiliani, and a cloned Saddam .... I'd have to move.

Sadly the candidate I'm kinda liking the most looks like he might drop out soon, Edwards.

I think he played too much on the fear and terror card. And God knows we've already had 7 years of that crap.

Amen. Add to that he is very unpopular in his home city - and don;t forget he wanted to extend his term as Mayor by postponing Mayoral elections - claiming no one but he could do the job!! Such an A-hole!

He got divorced 3 times. Why the fuck would you want to elect someone who can't even handle a marriage.

People who think this guy is eligible are morons and don't deserve much.

divorced twice. married 3 times. and so what? do we pick CEOs based on how many wives they've had? as long as he didn't kill them, i'm ok with that. who can make the country better is the question. not him is the answer, but not because after 2 decade plus long marriages things didn't work out.
