Not sure that's the game's fault. I got it via steam a few weeks after release and it ran almost flawlessly. Think I had one CTD but autosave covered that well enough.

It's the only unstable game I've ever had on my rig, so I don't know. Medieval 2 TW and Empire TW would run just fine, but not Shogun II (lots and lots of crashes at specific parts of the game).

ran perfectly on my machine but kept crashing on my friend's desktop. Unfortunate but CTD is fairly common for shogun2.

Been waiting for this one for years....never really cared for the colonial era ones.

I hope they do what firaxis did to civ 5....strip out some of the unnecessary cruft that diluted the experience. Keep the strategy intact on the field and through the empire, but not have it be so dense and impenetrable. I've lost entire days to the original R:TW, but there's still so much of that game that I never really understood.

Just watched the 2013 Trailer. It looks good. Hope they change the movement system on the world map and the old RTS engine (it is wooden compared to a lot of current RTS games) . Also, if you can play other Ancient powerhouses or start from City State rather than mid Roman imperialism (like in Rome Universalis) that would be good as well.

The first Rome Total War was just plain awesome. So what if you had to play one of the Three Roman factions. That was the point. Nations within a Nation and that was why the Republic gave way to the Imperial period (not to mention you could unlock all the other Ancient civs later on).

But an updated graphics engine with possibly base or nation building with an online 4x rts feel would rock.

Seriously. No more little star forts in the middle of nowhere.

Look at the elephant picking up the guy in the 2nd pic.

Yeah, now how many hundreds of $$ am I going to have to shell out so my rig can run it on medium? :p

Definitely buying this game. Like many others, I don't really like the colonial stuff so am very happy to see it back to sword and sandals.

Although I love Rome: TW and cant wait for the sequel, what I really want is Medieval 3.

The original Medieval was great, but it's sequel, although good, felt more like a Rome mod instead of a new game. Low amount of units, and missing some of that great art accompanying unit descriptions the original had. I really want a new Medieval: TW game.
I want to see it expand on the concepts of diplomacy, with princesses, dukes, counts and barons. I want to see more development for generals more like in Shogun 2, more emphasis on Medieval era technologies, such as guns, siege engines and ships, and off course a big graphics uplift.

Although I am aware that the Medieval era was in fact devoid of unit diversity, this diversity was definitely apparent when comparing units in different countries, their clothing, weapons and tactics. Perhaps giving units more personality would also do a lot to make Medieval: TW more appealing to players.

I have to disagree with the poster who mentioned preferring sandals and sword to colonial era. I am very glad the devs made a game dealing with that period of time. Too bad they dropped the ball with certain things, but overall Empire: TW is great, with Napoleon definitely being the game that shined in all areas Empire didn't succeed.

I agree, with all the latest patches and particularly if you download the Darth Mod, Empire is quite a good game now. Just took a little while to get there.

Maybe you want to play it maxed...like everybody else wants to :) . Also, I keep seeing the prices drop on the video cards. By the time this game comes out it will be a good 15-20% cheaper.

What do you guys think of the graphics? I'm not really liking the black & white effect. Not sure what its called. Looks kinda like what they use on Borderlands. I liked the color of the uniforms they had back then. This look they using kinda makes it blah for me color wise. Not really digging it. Probably just me though. I am looking forward to seeing this game.

They seem to be using sepia tone with a boosted contrast, not too uncommon these days. I agree though, not a big fan of it for a Total War game, I liked the look of Empire and Shogun more based on this trailer.

Wow, that's pretty awesome looking. I know why they are going with that color tone, not sure if the whole game is like that though or just something they are doing for the trailers. The screenshots don't look quite like the trailer did.

I'll definitely be getting this game though. Rome TW was my favorite one. I loved the music in it so I'm hoping that they bring it back. That Gladiator song is still great sounding. (Divinitus I guess is what it's actually called.)

Sigh, I guess you're just going to have to buy the ultimate complete package next year shorty!

Here are some factoids from the lead developer:
Characters in Empire: Total War were made up of 2000 polygons. Characters in Shogun 2 were between 4000 and 5000 polygons. But in Rome 2, the number of polygons per character has soared to between 6000 and 7000 polygons.

Even artillery projectiles in Rome 2 have more polygons on them than soldiers in Rome 1, Russell said.

Soldiers in Rome 2 have 45 bones or moving parts, and there are 4000 animations planned for the game. In Shogun 2, actors were motion captured by 16 cameras. For Rome 2, however, Creative Assembly has use of a new motion capture facility - one of the best in Europe. This has 46 cameras, and can capture the movements of up to five actors at once.
Rome 2 has 3000 movement sounds and 2000 impact sounds, apparently, and a word count of more than 500,000. Over 100 actors helped bring those words to life. And that's just for the English version of the game.

Sounds awesome

Although I sometimes wonder if they toned down the graphics somewhat if we could have battles of 50k soliders.

A good balance of both would be awesome. 50k with plain graphics and animation would look like you're just in control of a bunch of ants. Rome TW2 they go as far as having animations where you can see a spear go right through a soldiers head! Sounds like I'm a sadist, but, cool!
