I feel like there should be more context around this, especially since it's a footnote. also, that text is part of a quote from the referenced paper/report

True however that one would decide to quote such a document in their opinion with the implication that this is a problem to be addressed through reversing Roe....is a choice.

And that's where the context is important.

If the paragraph containing note46 says or implies that abortion should be outlawed or restricted to help potential adoptive families, that's pretty fucked up.

Context is everything

Man Alito and the GOP spelling it out. Domestic Infant Supply.

Except none of these conservatives are actually willing to adopt a black baby. I've actually read profiles on adoption websites where family after family says "no blacks."

Susan Collins wants everyone to know she is just outraged she was lied to. Just livid.

And in a move that is no doubt shocking to all of us, she is declining to support securing abortion protections into law.

Just another worthless liar that needs to be kicked out of office once and for all.

My brother recently bought a multi-million dollar condo there.
My mom implores me to take my family down there to visit etc. I 100% refuse.

Yeah my sister just moved to and bought a very expensive place outside of St Pete, FL and wants us to come visit and go to Disney. It sucks, but it is what it is. Until we start speaking the only language the GOP cares about (money) then nothing will be done. So I have to have some conviction to my stance. There's plenty of places that aren't shithole states.

Yeah, Maine voters fucking blew it in 2020 with that piece of shit.
And why would they not? Look at the news. Where do you read about homeless people living and excreting on the streets,. News alert:

Where do you read about robbery and murders. Where do you read about all the solutions to this not taking away the peoples' right to self defense. What party is also anti-religious? Democratic voters do little themselves to set an example for rural America and socially traditional places to want to emulate when all you have to do is point to the news and say, that's what will happen hear if you vote for Democrats. Your society will be ruined and they will take your only means of self protection.

Perhaps the socialists of the world need to set an example of what harmony between city and country living should look like, a real partnership with virtues that inspire emulation. Our culture is created by people who are made sick by the culture they create. Only conscious evolution allows one to step off the wheel of Karma. Karma is driven by blame. We are the world, our vision of it self created. For the unconsciously driven there is no choice at all. There is only one cause of our misery and it disappears only when we awaken from the dream of self.

Now back to our regular programming. Have a cookie..............

Well, at least it's the least crazy part of Florida. Kind of like the Austin of Texas.

Everything you have listed as some sort of fault of the Dems is actually caused by R obstructionisms. All you have to do is look at parts of Europe, Scandinavian countries, Iceland etc as examples. The dems for years have supported and tried to pass things like education, health care, social safety nets, and on and on it goes. sometimes they get lucky and get some sort of watered down version of what they want (ACA for example) but usually its shut down by the minority authoritarians (voting rights, build back better to just name a couple of recent examples). Sure the Senate D's "could" kill the filibuster, but that also opens the doors for gods knows what kind of bullshit modern R's will put forth in the future. Our society, government is broken and instead of looking at the causes of the problems you blame the D's who, despite their percieved faults actually try to put forth good policy. Go ahead name a good policy put forth by the R's in the last 20 years that wasn't a tax cut and that actually helped the people of this country...i'll wait...

The Ds at this moment can't do anything about the fillibuster either, because of a couple of DINOs.

CNN airing their poll showing 59% support federal law to protect rights to abortion, and 41% against.
AND SO.....
Going by that poll alone, democrats should be guaranteed a huge landslide in the November midterms with Republicans to suffer a major defeat. However, we know the chances for a democrat landslide in November is pretty slim to say the least. As far as I can tell, either abortion will not be the deciding factor or the outrage from the pro choice side hasn't quite made it to the ballot box.
Someone explain the discrepancy.

Time to federally legalize weed too.... you know dang well that would add votes! (although I suspect most pro-weed people are also pro equal rights for women!)

Seriously my poor mom (RIP) must be turning over in her grave right now. She was a founding member of the Westchester county NY branch of the league of women-voters and a gung-ho supporter of the original "ERA" amendment... this goes against everything that she believed. (and that she taught me)

She would be horrified and ashamed. 😕

50 years ago sex equality seemed destined for the Constitution. What happened? (NPR)

Yes, I am well aware of how the Republicans have a strangle hold on California politics. Poor Newsom can't even take a shit without permission from the massively Republican controlled legislature. The only reason I mentioned this is because the areas used to terrify conservative voters evil is coming to get them is the shit that happens in Democratic party controlled areas. Sorry if this wasn't obvious.

Being liberal should mean something more than just tolerating shit conservatives rage against. I was reading a headline today, don't know the details, about somebody closing a street in Sacramento to keep the homeless off of that street.

Perhaps you have noticed that people are rather intolerant of anything that threatens the good they believe in. Look what is happening to Democrats themselves, splitting along liberal NIMBY vs. liberal authoritarian lines. Lets bring everybody down rather than everyone up because we have no idea how to do the latter and it might cost some real money or loss of social standing.

And being "conservative" should mean something more then trampling all over women's and minorities rights to keep their ever-shrinking old/white minority in control no matter what the cost.

Problem is that it doesn't.

How could it turn out differently? All those people you need to join together to effect change politically, are in the real world also in competition with each other economically to survive. I have a feeling that most people put survival above political ideals. Maybe what we need is change that changes the system by focus on it's survival value with some real world wins to point to as successful.

How could it turn out differently?

Remember how we were forced out of Vietnam largely by massive protests AND some terrible tragedies in the late 1960's?

Well my guess is you ain't seen nothing compared to what's coming down the old 'pike for our "blessed" country.

Time to become a "prepper" maybe for-realz? 😉 😳

California, for example, is a place where such folk have very little control making California the primary target for stereotyping what happens when liberals are in control. California has more people than Capitalism as it is can find purpose for. But God forbid we go after the system.

There was a time I would have considered moving to California but now I'd pass on living in 90% of the state for those exact reasons .... and I say this as a Democrat.

The system is EXACTLY what we need to go after and it may be that "playing by the rules" will no longer be an option.

This country needs some serious freaking "adjustments". 😡

Ever see The Little Big Man?

Back at the Cheyenne camp, Jack accompanies Old Lodge Skins to a nearby hill, the Indian burial ground, where the old man, dressed in full chief's regalia, has declared "It is a good day to die", and decides to end his life with dignity. He offers his spirit to the Great Spirit, and lies down at his spot at the Indian Burial Ground to wait for death.
Instead, it begins to rain. Old Lodge Skins is revealed to still be alive, and says, "Well, sometimes the magic works. Sometimes it doesn't." They return to his lodge to have dinner

Maybe there is magic...........or an art of invisibility.

@fskimospy already did last night. People get more upset about losing something than not losing something.
