Seems like a modernish update of Gothic, which is what I've wanted for a long time.

I played through the demo. At the end you meet a guy and talk a bit. One of the options when talking with him is basically that you left this woman at a house. The thing is, I didn't. I left her at the beach.

This seems worrisome. Apparently I was suppose to do something but didn't do it. However, the game assumed I did. Seems like a AI problem.

By the way, Big Download once again doesn't disappoint. 3.0MB/s download on the demo.

The only thing that sent up some slight alarm flags for me was that exploring the cabin gave credit for a few quests that I hadn't recieved yet (I didn't talk to the busty lady right after I found the chest; I kept looking around like a normal human would).

That's a little troublesome for someone like me who checks every nook and cranny of every RPG I play.

I'm still getting it today though. I want a box copy.

PS - I checked some online player reviews. Some guy said "the graphics are worse than Gothic 1"

Review over@[url="http://gamersyndrome.com/video-games/review-risen/"]Gamersyndrome[/url] ,nice 4.5/5 rating.

My final judgment on Risen is ? a true masterpiece and one of the few games that deserve wasting your money on. Especially if you like action RPG?s and great stories. The game is just so good! There?s nothing you can say that will you excuse you for not playing it.

Scripting is probably the issue [you should report that as a bug] - they either need to make it where you have to escort the lady or trigger a flag that changes the dialogue if you left her on the beach or not [my guess is they assume you would try to loot all the dead bodies on the beach].

I'm really enjoying the full game - graphics and combat aren't stellar, but the story/dialogue/rpg elements definitely make this a fun game to play. This [copied from the manual] will make me want to replay through it at least a few times [They really should have hired an engrish translator - "Fractions?" :D ]

"The game was carefully balanced so that the three character classes or fractions are evenly matched. Whichever alignment one chooses should depend on their individual preferences. If you prefer to play the daring adventurer who is not always so particular about morality, then the bandit is a good choice; if on the other hand, you would rather confront your enemies with magic, then you will feel that you are in good hands with the mages of the volcano keep, whereas the Inquisition?s warriors of the Order are arranged ?in between?. Since there are partially different quests for all fractions and the storyline differs accordingly, it is possible to confidently play through Risen many times and still make new discoveries!"

I played the demo at 1920x1080 with 8AF,everything on max except shadows off and it was very smooth better then G3 ever was.
Considering I was using my 4 year old PC ie 3800+x2 cpu,4GB,4870 card(only thing I have thats modern) on Vista x64.

So you could say I was very impressed,I actually thought graphics were ok and from the very limited demo it did feel like Gothic in a very good way.

the xbox360 screens of this game literally look like some kind of photoshopped joke. lol, porting it to the xbox automatically means everything turns brown and gets washed out, funny stuff...of wait, those screen are real. :(

i was considering this, but the reviews i'm seeing don't seem very promising. most are citing technical glitches and a weak story, but calling it a good 'classical' RPG (which i find disheartening). and i still feel like the whole 'ruins rising out the ground' thing is just an excuse to give you a bunch of cut and paste dungeons to explore.

so who actually has the full game and has started to put some time into it?

It's very story driven. You pretty much need to talk to everyone and what you say to them matters.

Reviews are a bit mixed? Saying it's buggy (surprise, surprise).

May be better to wait a few months until a patch has been released to at least nip the game breaking bugs in the butt?

I think its the 360 reviews that are bad.....especially the nasty graphics. No bugs so far in the PC version.

I took the plunge and will be installing today at some point. I just hope this doesn't end up being another Two Worlds type purchase (buy on launch, play for 20 minutes and vow to never speak of it again). I do think the console version is getting bad reviews, but the PC version looks promising.

Just want to add to this thread. 18 hours in and, if the next 18 hours are as good as the first, I can safely say that this will rank up there as one of the best PC RPGs I've played. That is all.

You should be fine with PC version since all the complaints/issues I have seen are with 360 version.

I'm still waiting for my retail copy via post so hopefully Tuesday (tomorrow)I should receive it.
