After Gothic 3 I thnk I'll wait for super thorough reviews. Risen does look good and I'll keep an eye out for it if reviews are good.

Or wait for the community patch. I may pick it up after I catch up with my backlog of games.

I have cleared my backlog so I'm just waiting for the new games to be released.

I'll pick it up soon as its released, did the same for Gothic 3.

Do you regret that decision at all? Personally, I'm glad I waited for several community patches for G3 before buying it.

I'll be watching Risen, but its probably not going to get bought for a while.

Community patches should be for adding additional, custom content, not for fixing bugs and flaws in the original code, things the developer should have resolved.

Not really since nowadays bugs in PC games is the norm, besides I replayed G3 a few times so saw how the changes/fixes improved the game, personally I can't see Risen being as buggy as G3 initial release.
I normally play games like these more then once anyway, did the same for the Witcher ie played normal version and enhanced versions.

I want to have a good crack at playing Risen before Dragon Age arrives.

I picked up Gothic 3 for $3 on clearance and I don't regret it. I expect to finish most of the games on my shelf before Dragon Age comes out, then I'll probably play that before picking up Risen.

I've gotten behind on games by waiting for all the console ports, so by now I'm used to it and it's nice to pick up most games for less than half of launch price.

With the need to update two systems I'll hold off getting Risen for awhile but it definitely is on my list. I look forward to reading actual gamers reviews based on their experience as opposed to gaming sites "professional" takes.

As for Gothic 3. I thought it was good but I did wait a year from the time I purchased it until the final 1.72 Community Patch was released. The patch was HUGE but well worth the wait.

Us consumers shouldn't support that kind of shoddy business model though.

We don't get much say in the matter unfortunately,at least we get patches sooner or later.

We have plenty of saw, we pay for the game. If the game is incomplete and unplayable, at G3 was at its release, we shouldn't pay for it until the developer/publisher fixes the problems. Eventually, they'll get the the hint and stop releasing bug ridden junk.

Not really a lot of say,you either buy the game sooner or later or don't,state of a game you don't really know about until you actually play the game, its one thing reading reviews etc but another playing the game yourself.
I look at it this way I'm supporting the gaming industry and as a games beta tester myself I can see how they have deadlines etc..you know when the final word comes and says release it regardless the rest of the developers have no real choice, when you look at how complex/large and the deadlines they have we are lucky not more PC games are full of bugs.

G3 again it was some smartass that said "release it" when the rest of the developers knew it was not ready.
We all know a game should be virtually bug free but in the real world a lot of games don't work that way.

I do feel their forums are a good place to give constructive feedback, only a fool would ignore serious issues with products/games from the consumer, end of the day they are their bread and butter and future .

Pirahna Bytes deserves my release day money.

If I have to wait for a few patches, so be it. If it's a true PB game it'll be worth a few playthroughs anyway.

I hope Rosenkrantz (or whatever his name is) did the music.

Only problem I have is do I go to the store and pick it up or order online which is cheaper and hope the UK Royal Mail postal strikes don't cause any delays on delivery.

Bad timing for strikes especially for gamers like me.

I'm confident the game will be playable.

I'll wait until its $5 on direct to drive with some cash back deal and free game guide download. There are pc developers that don't release crap that really deserve launch day margins.

That's your perogative.

Gothic 1 alone was worth more than Oblivion and Morrowind combined for me (and many others).

Although the game was being demonstrated on a PC, I was told that the lead platform for Risen is actually the 360, and that the developers have been spending a large amount of time working on the fight system and the other basic mechanics to ensure that the game works well on both platforms. There is a rather interesting thing that stands out because of the console focus, which is that there is almost a non-existent HUD to the gameplay. Apart from two bars that represent mana and health for your character, everything is completely removed until you enter battle, at which point the enemy health bar pops up at the center of the screen. While it's certainly an ambitious project, it'll be interesting to see whether Deep Silver will be able to produce all of the open world elements for Risen when it hits shelves later this year.

Looks like another console port.

Here is a recent Preview over@RPGWatch .

Risen is not the next Gothic game - it is a new game that carries over much of the good things present in Gothic and adds new things on top of that. Still, from what was presented to me I believe Gothic fans will feel at home as will many other RPG fans.

The world is very lively and with all the handcrafted items it looks very good. There is a lot to do - indeed there seems something new to discover around every corner. With some 350 quests and 40-50 hours of gameplay if you try to do most of them, Risen will offer enough to fill your gaming needs. It sure is high on my games-to-play list.

Risen is worth a look when its released, hopefully its not a bug ridden mess though. Between work, school and race training, I barely have time for any games. 🙁

I preordered from GAME online so shall give you my feedback/review on Risen (PC version) ASAP.
