Finally watched this... Enjoyed it but I can see why people would be disappointed

It just feels very forgettable... The actors did their job, but the characters themselves are just so bland, I didnt give a damn what happened to them at any point... (what is the point of Charlize in this movie? I kept waiting for a twist, and then when she finally died to such a stupid scene... I had no words)

I cant really blame Ridley Scott though, I think its just... Its 2012, everything has been done so much, especially with this kind of movie... People would have shat themselves if this was released in the 80s, but nowadays its almost popcorn flick level, it just doesnt impress anymore

The weird thing is, I still find those early 80s horror movies a lot scarier than current ones... For example the ending scene in Terminator , where Arnold (in robot form) chases Sarah into the factory... I could barely watch that as a kid without having nightmares, and it still bothers me... Something about it is just creepy as hell and makes you go "OMG RUN"... You just get so attached to Kyle and Sarah throughout the movie, its really well done

I dont know, it might be that CGI has become "too much" nowadays, they need to go back and starting showing less, leaving things to imagination, like it used to be

Issue is it references the alien movies. if it were just a random sci fi horror own its own merit then it could pass as a dumb fun movie, plot holes and the rest. but since it was kind of part of the alien series the standard goes up, it has to add up, and the script just wasn't fully baked.

Because they like Charlize Theron. I think they wanted her for the lead role but there was a schedule conflict. Then when it turned out she would be available at that time, they already had given the role to Noomi. So they went ahead and put Chalize in the movie anyways.

The movie is almost forgettable :p

It doesn't really have a cohesive story. Like... action... drama... story is playing out right infront of you but in terms of the world the characters are in, it just has... no....story.

I heard the BR directors cut will add about 45 mins worth of scenes. I felt the movie was rushed and could easily be another hour. Maybe it will make it more complete.

It's Ridley Scott.

So, of course there will be a DR, and of course Scott was inherently pissed about the theatrical release, and of the course the DR will be much better than what happened in the theater.

go find, likely, my first post in this thread. :p

Lindelof's major weakness is his lack of adherence to canon.

Star Trek The Motion Picture violated canon, for example, by saying that going to warp drive within the solar system was dangerous and rarely done, when we know its routinely done in tos.
The Star Treks after the first movie reverted back to canon and that is why I think a lot people like them.

With the Star Trek reboot Lindelof had a field day disregaring canon. For instance warp ships with a single central nacelle for the drive.

So, here in Prometheus he is just being himself. Lindelof needs to work on applying canon instead of just giving us a scene or phrase or plot device that reminds us of the other movies in the series.

What's cannon?

What's cannon?

it refers to the assumption that nerds and dorks of the world own the creative content of long-standing story franchises, simply based on their established fandom, and when the actual owner of such content chooses to adjust, or go a different way with that content in a newer release, it is now a violation of some sacred holy element that was never sacred, and never certain.

Given how many frivolous characters, pointless scenes and irrelevant developments that were in the theatrical release I'd actually say the movie would have been better if you cut about 45 minutes out of it. Perhaps the 45 minutes will make a lot of the fluff make sense but I sort of doubt it since I never got the feeling there was any semblance of rationality behind much of the script. It would be odd though if 45 minutes of important information was chopped out in favor of things like the exploding engineer head or the strange zombie attack that didn't seem to advance the plot at all.

I think it would take a Lord of the Rings 12 hour deluxe set to make sense of everything that feels cut out of this.

Sure...we can piece stuff together...but...

I saw it recently.
Okay movie but it's nothing memorable and it doesn't say much really. Let's hope the sequel adds more.

Despite having a high appreciation for your accurate and spirited disemboweling of fanboy ethos, that wasn't quite my question. Have you ever known me to ask non-rhetorical questions here?

My question was more along the lines of, 'Who decides what is cannon, you? (that's a fucking laugh)'.

How is a film simultaneously "OK" without being memorable or saying much? It seems to me those traits qualify it for "bad".

Well, it's not like it's a. your money financing it and b. you are required to see it.

I want Ridley to redeem himself a little. But I still liked this movie despite all of the issues.

actually, my contract with a certain mr. lou siffer does require me to see it

Your misspelling of canon tipped me to your irony. I like your spirit, SphiNXIhpS.

So how fast did Prometheus travel on average? Assume 1 day is 24 hours, not 36 hours. Note: 2092 is a leap year.

Distance - 3.27 x10 (to the 14th) kilometers.
Time - 2 years, 4 months, 18 days, 36 hours, 15 minutes.

I think they went back in time when they arrived at LV-223. ^_^

Light-year

9.4607×10 (to the 12th) km

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_of_light

The speed of light in vacuum, commonly denoted c, is a universal physical constant important in many areas of physics. Its value is 299,792,458 metres per second, a figure that is exact because the length of the metre is defined from this constant and the international standard for time.[1] In imperial units this speed is approximately 186,282 miles per second

So after watching it a second time I have to say there are some issues with the movie. I almost want to watch it a 3rd time to see where the fuck that ladder came from.
