Saw in IMAX 3D. Definitely worth watching, but the story needed a lot more work. I'll agree that I felt a bit of a let-down due to the weak story. Someone asked if I thought it was worth seeing in IMAX 3D over RealD. I believe it was definitely worth it. It's the first 3D IMAX movie I've watched, and it looked much better than any other 3D movie I've seen.

Something else confuses me: I know that director Ridley Scott was simultaneously-developing both a PG-13 cut and an R-rated cut until the studio approved releasing the R-rated cut. However, they clearly censored an F-bomb by interrupting it with static noise. What the f[kssh]?!
[/edit]

Mandatory assignment:
Get the first Alien on Blu-ray and re-watch it before you watch Prometheus.

[edit]
I re-watched Alien: Director's Cut on Blu-Ray. Then I watched Aliens: Director's Cut on Blu-Ray. Both movies are great in their own ways.

I also re-watched the theatrical trailer for Alien (1979) and noticed more similarities to the Prometheus trailer. I knew the title appears in a similar way, but it also has the same escalating mechanical scream/shriek sound...and it's very effective. It's impressive that, back then, Ridley and crew made something that is still just as effective 33 years later. Also impressive that they had the idea to go back to the old trailer and reference it in this way. Brilliant.

I'm conflicted about recommending that anyone watch the Prometheus trailers. They are amazing, but they all contain what I believe to be MASSIVE spoilers for anyone that watched Alien. I'm also slightly concerned that they seem to have a bit of Avatar style mixed in there (not a fan of James Cameron's Avatar). Still, I think Ridley knows what he's doing. [edit] I was wrong! I was so wrong! [/edit]

If you're going to watch them, I recommend watching these back-to-back:

If you're excited about this movie, I suggest you install / tolerate QuickTime and watch all of the content here:

It's probably the only place to find most of the content in high-quality.

Kick ass deal! You can think of this deal as 1) a free Blu-Ray, or 2) save $10 on your ticket to Prometheus! I hope my friends can get-in on this. Too bad I didn't see this before I purchased my tickets :(

[edit]
Ichinisan - As the OP, would you mind putting a "spoilers" warning in the title - and maybe we can just stop using the tag for the rest of the thread? Huge swaths of black text is kinda cool, but a little annoying too. :\

You got it.

After many posts later in the thread without spoiler tags, it's pointless to continue using them...annoying too.

Interesting trailer to say the least...but I'm honestly looking forward more to Star Trek Numero 2 to fill my Sci-Fi needs...

I also enjoyed the Star Trek reboot. Still, I challenge you to watch the original Alien in HD. Then tell me you're not more interested in Prometheus than the Star Trek sequel.

I'm looking forward to Prometheus.

I don't think I can take Chris Pine as Kirk in another movie.

Can't wait, trailers look pretty awesome, guess we'll see the space jockey up close. Trailers don't show any xenomorphs so I guess they won't make an appearance?

Here's from the wiki, "Production of Prometheus has been marked by a high degree of secrecy[69] with story details "extremely under-wraps."[51] Determined to maintain the secrecy of the plot, Scott required the cast to sign clauses to prevent them disclosing story details, and the cast were only allowed to read the script under supervision in Scott's production office.[63] One exception was made when a courier flew to one of the actors in a foreign location and then stood guard while the actor read the script.[63]"

Wow, that's almost anal, this one might drag me out to the theater..

I too am consumed by my need to see Prometheus, and I have a feeling it's not going to let us down.

Honestly, ever since I saw the trailer a few weeks ago I think about at least twice a day. Definitely worthy enough to get me back into that bastion of wallet sodomy we call "a theater."

Looks very cool.

I just hope CGI doesn't put the past further along in technology like we have seen other prequels do lol. Time for these guys to be creative with it instead of letting the eyecandy do all the work.

Scott actually spoke about CGI and his dislike of it in an interview so i doubt it will be overbearing in this

I just watched two trailers and I guess I just be missing something because they don't look that great. Trailers rarely get me excited any more since we mostly get burned on things that look cool. It's Ridley Scott so he definitely gets the benefit of the doubt but the trailers don't excite me at all.

After reading this thread, I don't feel so bad that I've been kind of obsessed with this movie. I can't wait for it to come out. The problem with that is expectations are high with this one.

I too am nearly shitting myself in anticipation for this movie. I predict when I see it that "nearly" will become "profusely".

... and "anticipation" will become "satisfaction." -I hope!

I heard it was supposed to be released on March 29th, but executives decided to change it to June. That could be a really good sign. When executives and test audiences believe a movie will do well against other summer blockbusters, they often change the release date to maximize profit. This happened with Star Trek (2009), which was originally supposed to be a Christmas 2008 release (and it turned out to be much better than expected).

Haha, I'm sure. Considering this is Scott's baby, and the trailers I've seen (just watched the "Clip" on IMDB that I hadn't seen before, it's :awe:), I just can't believe I'll be anything less than busting a nut every few minutes while watching it. Better sit in the back of the theater. :ninja:
