Yes. The U.S. is spending about 17% of its GDP on health care while leaving tens of millions of people uninsured or under-insured with the rest living in mortal terror of losing their health insurance and jobs. The U.S. also suffers a great many medical bankruptcies and our current system acts as a load on businesses which spend a significant amount of time and money worrying about health care benefits.
In contrast, other nations are spending a far, far smaller percentage of their GDP on health care while having 100% coverage, a more content populace, zero medical bankrupticies, and their businesses aren't burdened with insurance concerns.
The Republicans who moonlight as free market dogmatists are standing in the way of Americans adopting a tried-and-proven form of socialized medicine. They are serving the interests of often wealthy stakeholders in the health care industry, such as insurance and pharmaceutical executives, and not the interests of the American people. Furthermore, by supporting the current status quo they are supporting the existence of Death Panels at private insurance companies. Therefore, the Republican and their supporters are traitors.
Note also that the Republicans favor foreign outsourcing, the displacement of Americans from college-education-requiring knowledge-based jobs by foreigners on work visas such as the H-1B and L-1, and mass immigration, both legal and illegal. (Bush and McCain support illegal alien amnesty.)

Just keep chipping away at the American standard of living by farming out jobs and letting illegals in to undercut the pay/benefits on the jobs that can't be farmed out.

Hell, we have a generation coming in who could live quite happily if the only thing life consisted of was posting on Facebook and MySpace 24/7, living in their subsidized housing and eating food they bought with food stamps.

The problem is that a great many people cannot meet their responsibilities and be self-reliant because both political parties and the wealthy have conspired to destroy the economy and to destroy the ladders of upward mobility. Foreign outsourcing, foreign work visas, and mass immigration are examples of this.
To hear you guys tell it, the unemployed and underemployed don't want to work in the fields they trained and prepared to work in and jobs are abundant and falling off the trees.

Perhaps he's just an independent who despises both parties? It's not like the Republicans aren't in favor of mass immigration, foreign work visas, and foreign outsourcing themselves. Remember, both Bush and McCain support illegal alien amnesty.
How about you go live in subsidized housing and live on food stamps and you tell me if you feel poor or not.

It's only a matter of time until America has its own large pockets of third world poverty. This sort of thing can happen to you when you allow the principles of free market dogmatism to outsource your industry and knowledge-based jobs to other countries and import foreigners to do jobs on your own soil. Anyone with a little common sense can do the math and figure out that merging the U.S. economy and labor market with those of billions of people in the third world will result in a lower quality of life for Americans.

My guess is it will make matters worse. There is a thing called medical tourism that is popping up as of late. people are going on vacation and getting procedures done at the fraction of the cost it would require here.
Good, hopefully that will start hitting the greedy mother fuckers in the pockets here.

Aside from the benefits it would have for American citizens, by enacting real socialized medicine and national health care, we could reduce the percentage of GDP that we spend on health care from 17% to something closer to what first world European and Asian nations spend while also removing the burden of health care concerns from businesses which would make them more competitive internationally.
Obviously that won't go too far to fix our nation's problem with global labor arbitrage, but then again, health care is health care and not really international trade economic policy. What exactly do you expect a good health care policy to do in that regard?

I'm not a liar, unlike you. I voted for Harry Browne in 2000 and chose not to vote for president in 2004 because all candidates stunk. I also voted for Keith Ellison (a black Muslim Democrat) last fall.
