Reports starting to emerge that he will offer temporary relief for DACA and TPS people in return for his 5.7B. That’s not enough to get a deal at this point but it’s a major change from when he refused any gives. Looks like the back down may be starting, WH reportedly freaking out about his deteriorating poll numbers.

Also highly possible this is just a float from someone in the admin.
Temporary won’t cut it. He’s already demonstrated time and time again he will keep holding the same people hostage. No one would agree to anything that isn’t permanent

Right. If such an offer were made Dems would need to counter with their laundry list of demands which specify permanent protections. More temporary measures are the last thing desired.

He’s not required to RIF everyone. He could selectively choose to effectively destroy entire agencies like the EPA or Department of Education where 90% plus of the workforce is currently on furlough. Trump would be happy to do this alone; but using it as a tactic to get his wall money at the same time might be too much for him to resist.

Or maybe he's angling for the Cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment because he's lost his marbles. It would tend to validate an insanity defense against all the charges likely to be leveled against him once he's out of office, as well. Reference Vincent Gigante.

Apparently the WH thinks they can peel off 7 Dem votes in the senate for this and pressure Pelosi. Given that their every gambit thus far has been proved incredibly stupid I’m pretty skeptical this plan works.

He’s going to threaten to RIF the 800k furloughed employees. Law allows for RIF after 30 days furlough, the 2016 Obama era guidance by OMB Making a distinction between “administrative” and “emergency” shutdowns is going to be rescinded. He’ll announce processes for layoffs will begin immediately on day 30 which is tomorrow and ball back into Dem court. Absent change in law which the GOP senate wouldn’t approve and he would veto anyway, There’s nothing Dems can do to stop this. It will create a huge shitstorm but Trump doesn’t care and his base will explode in happiness over the idea of “Reducing the size of government.”

Congress can layoff the entire secret service then rehire them as prison guards and have them blocade whitehouse.

This shutdown is a lesson for everyone. The lessons are...

1) You should have at least 6 months put away for an emergency. I like to go about a year, maybe even two. You don't make enough? Get a 2nd or 3rd job then, so you can quickly put emergency money away.

2) Don't rely on the government for your financial means. IMO, developing a side hustle is doable today. Lay off the Netflix and video games.

Just my humble opinion.

wtf is this?

So he's threatening to be a suicide bomber?

Sounds like a plan.

I guess a happy ending followed by regret then?

lol. That would require a sense of shame, which I believe he's shown a lack of time and time again.

Maybe he'll shove an old lady down a flight of stairs to feel better. And then masturbate on her prone, broken body.

President Coulter has already tweeted her veto of Loser Donald's plan, so I expect that by tomorrow he'll be calling it Fake News that he ever gave a speech yesterday.

So I guess Mitch saying that he's going to take what Trump proposed today, turn it into a bill, send it to the House, where (due to the fact that the Dems have a majority) it will surely be voted down. THEN McConnell can say the Dems don't want the shutdown to end blahblah? I See, it's a waste of time to vote on a bill that you know the President won't sign. But voting on a bill that you know the House won't pass, that's completely different.

The shutdown is costing 0.1% in economic growth every week, according the the WH itself. So much winning!

The bill will likely get stuffed on a cloture vote in the Senate.

Yeah what a shitshow...He's is offering a temporary solution to an actual problem that he started in exchange for a permanent solution to an imaginary problem he invented

Government shutdown puts a drag on the US. Hard Brexit throws England and Europe into a tailspin. Plus hasn’t China been in a slump recently?

Sure seems like the iceberg is coming. Maybe we should steer away.

This is a bit of a cross post with another topic, but it'd certainly impact our economy, to say the least of it. The shutdown hasn't even truly "begun". Or rather, its consequences have yet to be fully realized.
Millions of Americans hungry and homeless, within a few months. That's got me worried what the streets will look like before long. What degree of violence or terrorism we'll face? Or maybe Trump / Republicans will cave before it gets that bad. Or a Court will order a resolution, before the revolution.

Let me repeat what the shutdown will directly cause if it continues for just a few more months.

MILLIONS HOMELESS AND HUNGRY.

They should reopen the government first, then talk about the border wall later. There have been proposals to offer this but McConnell did not take them to the Senate floor to help all those workers, and now he wants to push it? I am neither a Dem, or Rep, or Lib, and voted based on facts and issues... but I find myself dislike the Republicans more and more each passing day. I don't like the Dems too but they at least tried.

They will find some way to keep SNAP and HUD going even with the shutdown, they managed to get most of the government employees to work without paying them, they will wave their hand on this one too.

Trump has just incredibly misjudged the Democrats (especially Pelosi) at every god damned turn. It’s kind of impressive actually how bad he is at this.

Maybe through feb or even March but options will begin to dramatically narrow and soon. Also who knows what the courts could end up eventually doing like if one rules that Trump is violating the 13th amendment and injuncts the government from making people work.
