This shutdown is a lesson for everyone. The lessons are...

1) You should have at least 6 months put away for an emergency. I like to go about a year, maybe even two. You don't make enough? Get a 2nd or 3rd job then, so you can quickly put emergency money away.

2) Don't rely on the government for your financial means. IMO, developing a side hustle is doable today. Lay off the Netflix and video games.

Just my humble opinion.
You're the 2nd person today that has placed blame where it doesn't belong. This isn't the gov't employees fault. Orangeholio and McConnell are to blame. The lesson for everyone is to learn is to quit voting for assholes that only care about the rich and who don't give a shit about the little people.

My manager just called me to tell me to report on Tuesday.

I am about as non-essential as a government employee can be. My entire job is internal to the government, and it will not make much difference if I do it Tuesday or next month.

So, at this point we are just calling back employees to work to make it look like the government is functioning, but we can't actually pay them. This is a new low for the federal government. I can understand that some jobs are critical for safety reasons, but really we recalled the 1-800-1040 toll line at the IRS? We recalled Fish and Wildlife people? You are harming Federal employees so as to not inconvenience people.

If the President and Congress can just ignore the consequences of a shutdown by making basically every federal worker report anyway, why would they ever care about a budget? This is just another way they have found to ignore their responsibilities and make everyone else suffer for their incompetence.

This is a terrible precedent that is going to even more dysfunction in our government. Setting these precedents seems to be a habit of this administration.

Tell that mother fucker to pay you or you arent coming in. The entirity of the federal government should strike. WTF are they gonna do?

Moment,

Excuses are valid but they don't solve anything. So, you're telling me that no single parent in the history of mankind has ever taken on a second or third job? I didn't say that it was going to be easy, but it's dioable. You just have to be willing to do whatever it takes to support your family. Again, it's just my opinion. I'll get off my soapbox now.
You don't have any kids do you?

Someone can't replace the income they would have from a government job with part time jobs. No one is going to hire them since they won't be around long. That means any job open to you is menial, low training required and thus low paying. Now if you have kids you have to consider child care. If you are working 1 job that's a huge cost during the day. If you have to take a second job you are now going into the evening. You think day time care is expensive? Try doing evening. Then you never see your children because you are working those jobs.

Many things are doable. That doesn't make them reasonable.

Why would you tell him to take his anger out on another employee who is also being screwed over by trump and Republicans? Just because he's the boss doesn't mean he's not getting shit on too.

A whole bunch of people just got in by tunneling under the wall, illustrating the need to declare an emergency so we can build more wall to keep people out!

Yes, he is going full retard again. National Emergency incoming.

Good. It's the only way out for Trump. Once he declares an emergency, he can take money from the disaster relief funds, screw the would-be recipients, re-open the govt & fight it out in court.

Congress can vote to cover the difference by putting money in the relief fund.

Fuck you, Donnie.

And you've done neither.

Man, WTF is he playing at?

Sounds like a dumb plan to make some bullshit "offer."

If it was a real offer to negotiate he wouldn't to do it in a televised address but rather in person.

Preferably in a meeting which he doesn't walk out of at the first no.

He’s going to threaten to RIF the 800k furloughed employees. Law allows for RIF after 30 days furlough, the 2016 Obama era guidance by OMB Making a distinction between “administrative” and “emergency” shutdowns is going to be rescinded. He’ll announce processes for layoffs will begin immediately on day 30 which is tomorrow and ball back into Dem court. Absent change in law which the GOP senate wouldn’t approve and he would veto anyway, There’s nothing Dems can do to stop this. It will create a huge shitstorm but Trump doesn’t care and his base will explode in happiness over the idea of “Reducing the size of government.”

Reports starting to emerge that he will offer temporary relief for DACA and TPS people in return for his 5.7B. That’s not enough to get a deal at this point but it’s a major change from when he refused any gives. Looks like the back down may be starting, WH reportedly freaking out about his deteriorating poll numbers.

Also highly possible this is just a float from someone in the admin.

He’s not required to RIF everyone. He could selectively choose to effectively destroy entire agencies like the EPA or Department of Education where 90% plus of the workforce is currently on furlough. Trump would be happy to do this alone; but using it as a tactic to get his wall money at the same time might be too much for him to resist.
