You just keep repeating that straw man argument as if it were true. The reasons for opposing the Wall are much deeper & you know it. The govt probably won't be shut down for long. It's bad for the GOP & everybody knows that, too.

Yes, if they are smart the Democrats will give them nothing or maybe some token amount just to let Trump save face in defeat. Under no circumstances should they give him any meaningful funding.

The GOP and Trump in particular are very fond of provoking a governing crisis in order to get legislation passed that they couldn’t pass otherwise. If you give in you just encourage more bad behavior.

Unless they absolutely shoot themselves in the foot like last election they’ve already captured the presidency.

I think you underestimate the amount of chaos Trump will cause in order to hold on to power. He was going to do a lot of it anyway but now that it appears increasingly likely that holding the presidency is the only thing between him and prison he will go all out. Expect FBI investigations of his opponent, selective declassification of information to help Trump win, possible military actions before the election, unfounded claims of massive fraud, etc.

2020 is the most important presidential election in US history other than 1864 and it’s not going to be easy. If the election were going to be fair I agree that the Democrats have already won. The election will not be fair.

Presidents don’t go to prison. And I think you overestimate what he can actually do if he were even inclined.

I know and you know it’s about open borders. Some on here (fshimospy) keep pretending it’s because it’s a waste of money and bad PR. No one believes the left is dug in enough to shut down the government because they think something is a waste of money or bad PR.

Myself along with millions of other folks underestimated Trump's ability/dog shit luck to get elected.

I'll never do that again. Nor should anyone else. For Trump it's better to overestimate his prowess and daring because it'll probably be spot on then.

Luck didn’t have anything to do with it. He campaigned his arse off on a platform that resonated and the opposite side barely campaigned, platform didn’t resonate, and the candidate was mired in controversy and generally despised. The lazy route is to call it luck.

Are you asserting that Trump's propaganda was genuine? Just because someone buys snake oil doesn't mean it is a cure.

To not recognize trump as being on a new level if ingorant.

I was about to mention how Trump won his primary/ general fights by being the guy who lied much better and made more boastful empty promises than all the rest. So yes, he took the level of craftsmanship of scamming his way into office on an order of magnitude the likes of which will probably set a record that will be very hard if not impossible to beat.

edit - Of course, I need not mention how badly Trump's lies and empty promises were begging to be heard and believed by those millions of folks who were taught among other isolationist/nationalist/tribalist ideologies to hate and fear the non-white hordes invading from the south.

It was bound to happen sooner or later...

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/oct/13/hl-mencken-predicted-a-moron-in-the-white-house

“As democracy is perfected, the office [of president] represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. We move towards a lofty ideal. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

We have arrived at that point. Gullible people are gullible.

If his platform resonated why did he lose by millions of votes?

Another straw man! The open borders boogeyman!

Tearing down the Democrats is your mission in life, huh?

No I cast my vote for a Dem governor the last election, probably won’t this one coming up, cast my vote Dem in 2008 and 2012. Not tearing them down, just call it as I see it and go with whatever I think best.

I’m not sure where you came up with this insane idea it is about open borders but I don’t support open borders. You seem to be unable to articulate why we should build this pointless wall and so you’re inventing positions for other people to hold.

If you think the wall is a good idea make a case for it on the merits. Good luck, haha.
