Isn't this the exact intro to The God Delusion?
probably bc the non-religious realize they have no possible way to logically reason with people who act on belief instead of reality

I am expecting this to not hit the major theaters of course, but fortunately there are some smaller theaters around which play the indie and non-mainstream movies.

gee, so bill maher has "bar charts" explaining who is not "religious". wow, i'm so proud of little billy maher. he finally figured out how to be more of a jackass than he already was. seriously, though, what in the blue hell does this guy think he's going to accomplish by coming out with a movie/documentary about atheists are teh best, and everyone should be an atheist? newsflash: there is NO such thing as an atheist. just the simple statement that atheists believe there is no God proves they do believe there IS a God, and that He does exist. let me explain. in order for ANY person to believe something doesn't exist, they must FIRST know that whatever it is they believe doesn't exist ALREADY existed. this is why atheists are so freaking mad all the time, whether or not they want to say it, because deep down in their deceived hearts, they KNOW God is there. by the way, how in the world is it possible for "humanity" to judge the "idea" of God, when God is the One who created ALL of humanity? who, exactly, do you think you are, garyb, that you can judge God, because by saying what you've said, that's what you obviously think. i bet you ANYTHING that when you're on your death bed, you're not going to be so gung-ho about judging God, or the idea of God, i should say. you won't even be THINKING about ways you can disprove God's existence, because you will be crying out to Him to save your soul. have you EVER heard the phrase, "there are no atheists in foxholes"? it's the truth.

Logic fails in the face of religion, because religion does not require logic in order to function.

"Occurrance X cannot be proven, therefore I shall have faith that it is so, as per the scriptures, which are 'proven' based on what would, to a rational mind, fall into a circular logic loop."

A thought on death-bed conversions to X Religion: Is there a time requirement before death? Like do you have to convert at least 1 year before dying for you to get into Heaven? What's the deadline? Is 5 minutes good?

Seconded:

I don't know that the Christian God is there. I'd be scared shitless if he was. He's a damn genocidal, severely bipolar and OCD sociopath.

Why do religious people get so ruffled up around atheists anyway? Oftentimes newscasters and the like look down upon atheists as if it's a disease or something to pity.

They are one in the same.

In the world we have the religious/atheist person who clings to their views, rebukes all other views but their own, feels like they have the right to shove those views down everyone's throats and then...

we have everyone else, who doesn't care about either of the fanatics.

I am not a huge fan of Bill Maher, but I do basically agree with him on most issues. I think his delivery is so biting that it hurts him and goes a little beyond funny most of the time. But what he says is also so true that I can't really argue with it.

I might see this. Not sure. Personally, I think religious and non-religious people get way too worked up about these things around each other, and they should both just settle down. But I'm still firmly in the non-religious camp and I will always view religion as, at best, a moral crutch that a lot of people are conditioned to believe in. I don't so much think religious people are stupid, but I do feel sorry for them.

And athiests do the same. Both sides beat drums and try to force all others to find truth in their beliefs.

An Atheist at the core is just a non-theist. Lacking religion. You are labeling a huge group of people by a small subset - the strong atheist, the one that not only lacks religion/belief but also is sure gods don't exist.

Remember, "most agnostics qualify as weak atheists".

Seriously, from the trailer it looks like Bill Maher is setting out to prove that.... duh, dum, dum, dum... a lot of "religious" people are morons who haven't actually examined their faith critically. Whoah-- big revelation there!

I still dont understand what people are talking about when they say that atheists are trying to "push" beliefs on people the same way that religious people do. People who dont believe in a god will debate about it, but they arent knocking on doors to "save" religious people. They arent invading countries because they think thier non-god told them its the right thing to do, after talking to their non-god at night. They arent trying to pass laws to promote thier non-god. Any legislation they want, its to keep god out all together. Thats not pushing a belief, that is trying to keep your beliefs out.

Yes, and athiests do the same to thiests, labelling a huge group because of a small subset. In my opinion, both sides argue about something that they no proof in.

Well, one of them, for example, has a show on HBO where he openly insults religious people on a regular basis. I forget the guy's name.

Oh yeah, it's Bill Maher.

Ok, so atheists do it to theists and theists do it to atheists, so you felt left out and you did it as well?

I would think most atheists judge theists based on their teachings, sure they might joke about some stupid person, but it's the fundamental teachings that drove them away. Theists that judge atheists based on the few strong theists that argue an ultimately flawed position would be completely foolish.

Does he come to your house and turn your TV to that channel?
You can always change channels but I had to go to college where the religious people would give out bibles, scream that we are all going to hell, etc... I have to go to the store where religious people are asking for money, giving out their "advice" etc...

Don;t like what a atheist has to say change the channel. Don;t like what a religious person has to say, to bad. They will be there, where ever there is to you at some point and you have little choice most of the time.

Well I personally have had several visits, people coming to my house to "save" me, by using their special book. I have never had an atheist show up one day on a bicycle trying to push a book about atheism on me.

Sometimes I think he did. Every time I watch his show hoping it will be informative I end up despising the show because it's just a bunch of idiots yelling at each other and failing to make any useful points.

Screaming bible thumpers are great fun. We have a "zombie lurch" here in Madison once in a while. People dress up as zombies and march. Last year they ended up face to face with some of those preachers. The whole event would have been way more boring without them. I also have coined the phrase "preacher logic" because of one preacher who used to yell at people on campus. His logic was this: "I don't masturbate. I never have. So it MUST be a sin".
