Religulous

Penn and Teller already had this one covered, and much better, too.

Seriously, from the trailer it looks like Bill Maher is setting out to prove that.... duh, dum, dum, dum... a lot of "religious" people are morons who haven't actually examined their faith critically. Whoah-- big revelation there!

Bill Maher is a talking mouth that's real function corresponds with the anus on most humans.

Looks like it'd be amusing, and probably a bit unsettling perhaps, but probably nothing I haven't heard or seen before.

You can disagree with the guy's politics all you want, but you can't say he isn't very well versed on the issues, and surprisingly intellectual.

pseudo intellectual tbh.

It amazes me how much he is able to say concerning society and no one calls him out. He's useless bigot.

That's all I'm going to say about it.

He advovates people with diabeties die rather than take insulin.
He says pets are better of dead. He calls for the fire bombing of homes of scientist who do research with animals.

Don't forget calling the Pope a Nazi (for his forced service as a young boy during WWII).
Or saying that child molestation isn't really all that bad if the molestor is Michael Jackson.

Question: Do those of you who loved Carlin also love Maher? They both sort of have a similar cynicism and position on many topics.

More honestly, it's not that Carlin and Maher share a lot of position on topics as much as it is Maher has coopted (borrowed, stolen, whatever word you want to use) Carlin's ideas for his own.

I honestly thought the same thing. I "discovered" both of them around the same time, and it seems like they are both taking from the same script. Maher appears to want to follow in Carlin's footsteps.

Maher is more extreme for many issues, Carlin never advocated death of scientist.

I like Carlin more. Something about Carlin's style is just more, oh, I don't know, "likable."

Well calling the Pope a Nazi is just plain, ol' fashioned fun. Popes have a worse track record than the Nazis anyway. It'd be far more offensive to wrongly call a Nazi a Pope IMO.

And the child molestation thing was a joke in which he commented that he'd choose being gently masturbated by Michael Jackson over being beaten up by bullies any day. It was a jab at American sexual prudishness but acceptance of violence.

There are enough reasons to not like the guy (like his insane positions on medical science and his involvement with PETA) that we don't have to quibble over crap like this.

As for his movie, I expect it to be disappointing.

Most of the people who will attack him before seeing the movie, are more than likely just against the idea of someone exposing religion.

"Early on in Religulous, Bill Maher throws up a bar chart illustrating the number of people in America who are non-religious. That number is 16%, more than blacks, more than Jews, more than numerous other minority groups who seem to have no problem making themselves heard and getting Congress to do their bidding. Maher wonders aloud why non-religious people are so underground, and why they aren?t having an impact on the national discussion. His film is aimed squarely at that 16% of the country, and almost no one else. His goal, and he clearly has one, is to give those people the motivation they need to come out of the closet and do something? before it?s too late. "

Isn't this the exact intro to The God Delusion?
