This guy was dumb because he was doing meetups with other reddit people. It was only a matter of time before he was found out. Anyone know what his job was before he got fired?

Since 2004, Brutsch has worked as a programmer at the Arlington, Tex., company First Cash Financial Services, which offers payday loans and operates pawn shops, according to his online resume. First Cash would not comment on Brutsch's employment when we called today, but Michael Brutsch's voicemail box at First Cash has been deactivated since Friday.

Did the guy do anything worth costing him his job?

What he did during his off hours was his business.

He contaminated his identity, and got the company involved. I generally agree with you, but his off hours actions could affect the company's business.

"His speciality is distributing images of scantily-clad underage girls, but as Violentacrez he also issued an unending fountain of racism, porn, gore, misogyny, incest, and exotic abominations yet unnamed, all on the sprawling online community Reddit."

That is not trolling.
So, he's shortylickens?

His activity was so fucked up and vile that his employer, a company that owns PAYDAY LOAN and PAWN shops felt that he would contaminate their brand. You have to do something really fucked up for a pay day loan operator to think you're scum.

He posted disturbing photos under the guise of free speech and yet when the gawker article uses free speech to out him, reddit bans gawker content.

Everyone wants freedom of speech forgetting it is a double edged sword. Gawker did nothing wrong, it was only a matter of time since Anderson Cooper was already reporting on this guy's jailbait photos.

I was thinking the same thing, these companies are dubious at best so they should be willing to have a employee like him.

Thank you for the honest reply.

I am not trying to defend the guy, but most of us have secrets that our employer would not want to be related with.

Yes the guy posted offensive content. How many of us have done stuff we pray nobody ever finds out about?

You serious?

As an employer, you HAVE to fire someone who is in that situation.

There is way too much liability.. A coworker ends up on the site, and the company would definitely end up in a lawsuit since they knew the guy was borderline pedo.

There are certain things where you can look the other way... smoking weed on the weekends, mma fighting, all sorts of oddball stuff that couldn't affect other employees... but something like this is way past 'doing whatever you want offhours'.

Amazing how many reddit people believe freedom of speech somehow extends to freedom FROM consequences of said speech. The man is a vile, disgusting pig, however he is still free as ever to go home and continue living his reddit life. He should have taken better care to secure his IRL identity if he wanted to avoid IRL consequenes. I'd feel sorry for his supposedly disabled wife, only she was willingly and knowingly married to a man who ate out his former wife's 19yr old daughter, and then proceeded to brag about it to his reddit followers.

I've never posted pics of 'scantily clad underage girls' or started a subforum that encouraged others to do so. I haven't posted pics of dead women, either.

Have you posted anything near that level of antisocial content?

Have an orgy in a bible belt town and see what happens.

I find the content he posted offensive, but we all do something that is offensive to someone.

If the guy was posting pics of underage girls, let the FBI handle it. How long have the pics been posted, and the FBI has not kicked in his door yet?

The problem is this was highly public. With most real life "issues" few people know, and the information doesn't travel far. I don't know if /I/ would have fired him, but I think it's justified. He let his real life, and his online identities get crossed. That can bite you in the ass. It was his own fault. I'm all for freedom of just about everything, but freedom requires responsibility, and accountability. He neglected the responsibility, so now he faces the accountability.

I still laugh at those that say the content was bad. It can be seen daily in public, it's shown on news stories (girls in bikinis in news stories anyone?), so what the hell is up with people and this phobia of oh noes under 18 can't post photos.

He is indirectly taking advantage of little kids... Like I said, there are certain things where you can look the other way - but supporting an 'underground' pedophile-esque movement is just a whole different league.

I am a huge proponent of 'what you do at home stays at home', and I have had employees get in trouble for some crazy stuff that I ignored because of my stance on this, but this is something that is a huge liability for a company.

Essentially, this guy is doing stuff at home that is making his company liable for future issues.

Wow.....................

You don't understand the difference between taking secret upskirt photos and a news story? This is all about context.

It is an interesting story, but trusting Gawker to report on Reddit is like trusting Fox News to report on MSNBC.

I am not trying to support anyone.

If the guy was posting images that would be considered pedo, why wasn't the FBI involved? How long was this going on?

If the images were that offensive, why hadn't the FBI kicked the guys door in at 3am?

If the guy was posting images from a company computer, then yea, maybe so.

That one is actually flame worthy. But we all know what people are actually concentrating on. The upskirt segment barely garners a paragraph. Everyone is hung on this accusation of pedophilia that doesn't exist.

they realized that Violentacrez was an excellent community moderator and could be counted on to keep the administrators abreast of any illegal content he came across.
Wow, what a horrible guy.

It is one thing to get stimulated seeing it on the news or elsewhere. It is another to seek it out for sexual gratification.

Now we're getting into thoughtcrime. The only question is "were the pictures legal?" If so, nothing else matters. People's intent can't be known, and it doesn't matter.
