Some of those old guns indeed used clips, most famously the M1 Garand. Many soldiers complained about them, after firing the last round, the thing would eject with an audible 'ping', which could be ... undesirable.
No mg42 yet for me, but I did have the MG 34 on barracks at the start of a round, and it spawned me on the allied side of the map for some reason. I immediately set the thing up and mowed down 10 people as they ran across the street before I ran out of ammo and got picked off.
I know it was cheap because it was a glitch in my spawn, but moments like this make the game great.
(those are actually rounds I've got loaded up to shoot out of the 1942 Mosin Nagant 91/30 that I own :awe![]()
I was reading about this game on RPS and it sounds kind of cool. Never played the first one; is it worth getting the first game before trying this one?
KT
Will this game have a single player campaign?
Is it too realistic-it-gets-boring a la ARMA?
Will my rig run it fine?
Also... I could make a huge, profane, rage-induced post about this, but I understand RO2 is in beta, and I love the game for the most part, so I'll be brief and civilized:
They need to fix the hit registration. Seriously... fix it. When I shoot an enemy soldier in the chest with my bolt-action rifle from five feet away, not moving whatsoever, with my iron sites directly on top of him, they should die. Or they should be extremely injured. Or SOMETHING. I've been getting extremely frustrated with this lately. Half of the time it works. Half of the time it doesn't. Lag isn't an excuse either, since absolutely no one is moving. That 100% SHOULD register as a hit.
I'm glad to see this is a fairly widespread issue, so I know I'm not the only one. Apparently shooting enemies with rifles at extremely close range just misses for no apparent reason. I've raged at this far too many times. Why do some of my shots just simply not register? Ugh.
Other than that, this game fucking rocks. Carry on.

While it's billed as a realistic WWII shooter, it's far from being a simulator like Arma. It still plays very much like a game.Is it too realistic-it-gets-boring a la ARMA?
I don't think this makes sense, and I don't buy it at all. Maybe if I was firing from the hip, or maybe if I was firing from extremely long range. But I'm talking about encounters I've had where the enemy is literally five feet in front of me, I have my iron sights directly on them, and I fire into their chest. I've missed these way too many times. There's no way it could be level-based. Not to mention, I've leveled up the main Allies bolt-action rifle (the MN1931 or something) up to level 10 now. Some of the aim/registration issues fix themselves as you level up your weapons and classes.
This makes more sense to me. As enraging as it is, I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until the game is released next week. However I think alot of the registration issues have to do with people running 64 player servers on boxes that can't handle the load.
Do you collect? I used to have a 91/30. Right now I've got a 1944 M44 (the carbine version of the 91/30...it was in RO1 but I haven't seen it in RO2 yet) and I've got a 1937 Kar98 in great condition with eagles intact. It's cool playing RO and then going "oh, I've got that gun."
I don't think the M44 would be in RO2 since it's supposed to be only set in the battle of Stalingrad. The M38 might though, and it's basically the same thing without the folding bayonet AFAIK.
As far as I know, the commander can either spot his own targets using his binocs or accept targets from squad leaders. To call in artillery or mortars, he has to be by a radio, which are scattered around caps. How is the artillery working out? Or mortars, whatever?

I've only played commander once for a few minutes and called in some mortors but had to take a dump, sooo who knows if I hit anyone.
I've been blown to pieces by arty a few times.

It's very similar. Commanders as far as I know can't simply just click on a point on the map and start throwing arty at it like you could in BF2. You have to specify the location by your own binocs or a squad leader's target. That, and you have to have a radio nearby. It's not player fired artillery. It's BF2 style arty and not player fired?
