I would think that if I can max out Unreal 3......I shouldn't have problems maxing this game out no?

Not necessarily true. Red Orchestra 2 runs on a modified version of Unreal Engine 3, and employs many more advanced special effects than UT3 does. My 6950 1GB certainly struggles with it at 1080p with everything on Ultra, so it certainly is pretty demanding. It's also still in beta and not quite as optimized as a game like UT3.

is this unlocking midnight on steam tonight?

This will be the first game I have bought on Steam...and if this is still in 'Beta' what does that mean for the game I have downloaded?

Does it become invalid once the game is released and I have to go and re-download the game and install it? (not the worst thing) but it would be nice to know ahead of time.

Thanks,

Lee

It probably will try to download the entire client again. But if you just copy the contents of your beta folder to the real RO2 folder (install it first in Steam, then just pause the download on 0%) that should save a bit of time. I assume most of the art assets won't be changing from beta -> release and those are the biggest files. So it'll skip downloading those and just update your binaries with the release code.

I'll redownload it myself. I saw a developer post saying there will be a bunch of fixes on the released game.

Yeah, when a game goes from beta to final release, that's usually what happens. :)

I would imagine it will unlock at like 10 am pacific time like most steam games. Kinda lame, but that's how they usually do it.

Yup. With most of the games I pre-order, it's not a midnight release, but usually sometime before noon or even in the afternoon. Doesn't matter for me, I have school and work so I have to wait anyway.

Steam says that release time is about 20 hours from now. Which is accurate.

If they keep pushing patches the way they have been this game will turn into something special. Just wait and see. Haven't had this much fun with an FPS in a long time.

I played the original RO and it was too slow for my tastes. Is this more of the same?
I played the original RO a bit, but mainly Darkest Hour. I would say they eliminated the fundamental problems of the original game. Movement is pretty damn fluid - not totally CS/COD-like, but it's a HUGE improvement over the original RO. The ugly, vast fields common in tons of RO maps are no longer - the maps have been downsized somewhat I think. There's more emphasis on close quarter/urban combat though there's still plenty of opportunities for long range shots.

IMO - I think they did pretty well. I hope the performance gets "optimized" soon, and the bugs ironed out, but overall I think it's a good game. Sounds like there is going to be a lot of good mods for this game as well.

I think the beta is not RTM, they just patch code and add content as it progresses .

I think it will be a separate DL...

There is a 1.3GB dload happening now it is prolly the another beta build...

So RO2 is up for pre-load now, and at the same time, there's another patch for the beta version? Just a day before the final game comes out? :hmm:

Them releasing patches is a bad thing? Last time I checked fixing bugs is a good thing.

No, it's not a bad thing. It's just odd that they would go through the effort of releasing another patch for the beta version of the game, seeing as the final version of the game is releasing tomorrow anyway. It just seems like a waste of time to me. (In your Steam library, RO2 and the RO2 beta are separate entities; you'll have to download the full game anyway as soon as it's released tomorrow.)

Took about an hour to preload this morning, coming down at 2.5mb/s. I have a feeling speeds will go down as others download/get on steam.

Can't wait to play tonight.

I tried to preload last night with no luck. Same thing just recently but then I switched from Dallas to Houston to see if that would help, I'm getting my max speed in.

Darn, I guess I'm not going to make it through my replay of Total Annihilaton...

Not having played the previous RO, should I start with the single player, or jump right in to multiplayer?
