Soon Infrastructure week.Looks like the deadline has been moved back to April 14, 2025.
I'm sure we'll be getting Trumps taxes and a much better replacement for Obamacare in two weeks.Soon Infrastructure week.
I've been getting DD SS checks for years now. ID.me I didn't know about, saw it as an option, but did the _recommended_ create login.gov account instead. Did NOT go smoothly, but managed to create the account anyway... apparently OK, but wouldn't be surprised if something isn't OK what with the kludgy semi-functional system they have up right now.Decided to do it for my dad..
Was greeted with: You last signed in on July 27, 2018
Thankfully still had an ID.me login.. but yes everything expressed in the OP I went through back then for him when I changed his method of getting a check to direct deposit.
I would definitely change from a check to a direct deposit if you haven't already by now!
Also just tried the old style login and waiting for the code for over 2 minutes now. Nothing.Just tried it and sent me off of the SSA site to ID.me and then said page not found.ID.me just worked for me as well.
Went back, retried with ID.me, this time it connected back to SSA and the reply was basically we can't respond at the moment!!!!!!Also just tried the old style login and waiting for the code for over 2 minutes now. Nothing.
I waited to almost the 10 minute deadline and clicked to have yet another call and it DID come, entered and it said timed out! YMMV!Also just tried the old style login and waiting for the code for over 2 minutes now. Nothing.
Thing is I also did that and got a code, then it told me, you've changed to ID.me. So I tried ID.me again and got me into the SSA site but then it said it couldn't do anything. Maybe I will try on a workday since who knows who's actually working with the moral there.I waited to almost the 10 minute deadline and clicked to have yet another call and it DID come, entered and it said timed out! I have not done anything with ID.me. I was prompted to set up an account at login.gov. It was complicated, very complicated, but somehow, seems to have been accomplished.Thing is I also did that and got a code, then it told me, you've changed to ID.me. ID.me was a nightmare to setup due to my horrible ability to take pictures with my cellphone of my drivers license.I have not done anything with ID.me. I was prompted to set up an account at login.gov. It was complicated, very complicated, but somehow, seems to have been accomplished.
The hours aren't some recent rule change.People reporting the site is still down after 9AM ET, inside the window it's supposed to be on.
Everything at login.gov worked fine for me 20 minutes ago.I’ve had the log in ID for a couple years but haven’t looked at SSA site since 12/24.
I’ll test it tomorrow and post the results.
It is clearly working exactly how Trump/Musk/DOGE want it to work... simply "fuck you leach"Went back, retried with ID.me, this time it connected back to SSA and the reply was basically we can't respond at the moment!!!!!!
I went through all this sometime after 10PM, Eastern time. Do the stated hours refer to the user's local time, or DC time? The hours aren't some recent rule change.
I knew years ago that they shut down their online
hours at night. I just didn't know the specific hours.
Can we get the links for the blog and link for my social security into the first post? Maybe even a brief summary of what to do.READ THIS!! Social Security login
OK, I have had a Login ID on login.gov for years, primarily because I use it to access my Veteran Administration information and benefits.
I have used it in the past to also access my Social Security account, in fact once I finally got login in, it shows I had last logged in, in December 2024.
Watched a YouTube about the changes that if you don't have a verified login by 3/31/25 you must show up in person at a Social Security office to prove your identity. Thought no big deal, I know I've logged into SSA many times, in addition to the VA, but let me log in again just to verify it works. Fuck me, it required many steps to again prove my identity.
From everything I had seen, having a login.gov Login ID should be all you need.
This is all from memory, as I was interested in just verifying everything was working, not documenting the steps necessary.
Did my Login ID thing, got prompted for it to send a 6-digit one-time code to my phone to then enter. I received it on my cellphone, entered it on my computer, and it got me to the next step (which should have been the SSA site, but it wasn't).
Next I told me that I needed a smartphone with a camera, and it would send a link to the smartphone. I verified the phone number, and it sent me the link.
Opened the link, and it told me to take a picture of my identification in the site that opened on the phone. Prompted through taking a picture of the front and back of my driver's license, then it told me to take a selfie. Gives a red circle where your face should be. Once it was happy with all 3 pictures, it had me submit. It took a minute or so and said ID verified, and go back to the computer.
Back on my laptop, it again wanted to send a one-time code to my phone. It came up with my phone number, then said it did not recognize the number. (This is the same number I just received the 6-digit one-time code, and the link to the site to submit photos of my driver's license and my selfie) You have 4 tries, or you have to wait 6 hours to try again. Another option to receive the code is to have a voice call, provide the one-time code. Since I still have a home phone, I entered that number, and did receive the call. It read off a 10-digit code, which I entered, and it accepted it.
I could finally access the SSA site after going through all this.
This is some screwed up shit...

F'elon and all our greedy oligarch billionaire friends want YOUR money.
We will get it with tariffs, by making it very difficult to vote against us, by making it really hard to get your benefits.

Looking back in my archived password database, I have had a login.gov account since February 2023. I have used it for both the VA and SSA in the past. Can we get the links for the blog and link for my social security into the first post? Maybe even a brief summary of what to do.
I setup login.gov for global entry a few years ago so that worked flawlessly.
1. Create a login.gov or id.me account and validate identity. Setup 2 factor authentication. This might optional.
2. Go to ssa.gov and use the sign in option. It will prompt for login. After login, it will prompt to setup your SSA access account if needed.
3. Go to view statement. Revel in the monies you will get paid when you are old.
4. Download your statement as pdf or csv or both.
5. Rest a little easier (maybe) while dumbshits screw up our government.
My experience mirrors yours right up until you had all the weirdness.Looking back in my archived password database, I have had a login.gov account since February 2023. I have used it for both the VA and SSA in the past.
However, last night, it no longer worked for SSA until I jumped through all the hoops in post #1 of this thread. One can only surmise they are fucking with what has worked in the past.
